U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have apprehended an 'additional' 1,600 people attempting to 'illegally enter' the country from Mexico as a result of the deployment of National Guard troops to the southwest border, CBP and defense officials said Wednesday.
The increased surveillance and communication between guardsmen and border officers also led to CBP's 'intercepting an additional' 451 people who were turned back before illegally entering the U.S.
Those numbers could tick up considerably if the the 3,000 National Guard troops who have yet to be deployed are sent south.
As of Wednesday, 775 troops have been deployed and are on the ground providing "direct support on the ground" in seven sectors assisting law enforcement officers.

Is it true that if an illegal sets foot on American soil and is captured, they must, by law, go through a court proceeding before they can be kicked back across the border???

The border has become wussified. These people make demands and we immediately respond with a platoon of lawyers to help them. Firearms will bring just more lawyers, law suits , and anti-1st Amendment demonstrations by bleeding hearts.
OTOH, tear gas, flash-bangs, dogs, concertina wire will do the job just fine. You’d only have to deploy them ONCE.

Those Lawyers who are “assisting” the Illegals to claim refugee status need to be arrested on conspiracy to commit immigration fraud and stuck in a tent jail in the Mohave until their court date.
Sorry to tell you, but if the illegal border crosser knows the right jargon it certainly is in most cases. There are very few meaningful consequences for illegal border crossing into this country. The approximately 25% of the federal prisoner population who are illegal immigrants are mostly there for committing “serious” crimes... murder, rape, burglary, drug trafficking, etc. etc...
The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Typical government employees doing typical government work. Few of them give a rats a$$.
I have a friend who smuggles biblical materials into mainland China. He has been doing it for years. He has been caught several times. Sometimes they treat him harshly and they always give him a stern warning to never come back to China or he will be in “BIG” trouble. But like clockwork he is back in 6 months with more bibles, books, DVDs, and other Christian literature. One jurisdiction in China doesn't know what the others have done previously and sometimes not even what they have done previously. My friend just plays stupid just like illegal immigrants do here. The only difference is here we set a court date and give them benefits until it arrives a year or two later.
If a brutal communist dictatorship that by most estimates has killed approximately 80 million of its own people doesn't have the will to enforce its laws... What chance does a milquetoast bunch of namby-pambies like our border enforcement people have. That is why we need the damned wall so badly.
