I wrote at RedState for 12 years, from shortly after its founding in 2004 to the end of the 2016 primaries, and I continue to value many of its current and former writers as friends, so it is with a lot of sadness that I learned of this morning’s summary firing of its Editor-in-Chief, Caleb Howe, and about half of the site’s writers. The site will go on, and has retained a number of talented people who will still be worth reading, but this clearly marks the end of an era and the end of the site’s distinctive grassroots anti-establishment conservative voice.

I am amazed by the bad instincts of some of our conservative, eh, thinkers. That and their inability to learn from their mistake after the fact. Jonah Goldberg is the classic example. He writes the best conservative book of the 2000s, Liberal Fascism, then gets it completely wrong on Trump, and then persists in his wrongness when it’s obvious that he’s wrong. The whole never-Trumper thing really drives home the notion of human fallibility.

And it looks like these holier-than-thou purists, these jackals, who would prefer for the witch to lead the country into oblivion rather than sully themselves with anything to do with Trump, are headed up by Jeff Sessions.
A modicum of dissenting option would have fostered debate and kept them alive but they would have none of that.

I didn't wait to be banned. I just stopped reading anything they wrote. (Though I never spent much time there anyway).
RedState created their own insular anti-Trump hate-bubble and they suffocated.
Good riddance. What the heck do they want at this stage of the game? These nutcases would rather have Hillary? I actually asked that question of a ‘never Trumper’ and he said he would rather have had Hillary. This is insanity.

Some of these Never Trumpers are just showing themselves to be the hacks they always were underneath their fine words.
But I read Liberal Fascism twice and it still has a place on my bookshelf.

Generally, I avoid RedState because it has looked to me like a bunch of Never-Trump corporate shills. A whole lot of heat and not much light, if you know what I mean.
In light of the shake-up, I was curious and went over. It looks greatly improved.
This article had one particularly interesting line,
“once stood for telling the powers that be in DC to shut up and listen to the people who took their promises at face value”
This seems a bit of a simplistic view of “Deplorables” and seems to be the other side of that same slanderous coin. The fact is that nobody believes DC or Congress. They have long been less popular than a broken sewer line in the summer.
