Democrats Push For Internal Documents On 2020 Census Citizenship Question

Democratic lawmakers are calling for a subpoena to force the U.S. Census Bureau and Commerce Department to release internal documents about the decision to add a controversial citizenship question to forms for the upcoming national headcount.

The request comes two weeks before a congressional oversight hearing on the 2020 census.

"We believe these documents are critical for our Committee," write all 18 Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in a letter to its chairman, Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, "to understand the concerns raised internally by career experts at the Census Bureau itself about the dangers of adding this untested new citizenship question to the census — as well as why the Trump Administration disregarded these concerns."

Does Congress even have any Constitutional say in how the Census is conducted?

The Department of Commerce is part of the Executive Branch, which was the reason Democrats used to let Obama run the Census from the White House

“Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States...

“Section 2. Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed.”

That’s the answer.

I think you might be onto something. if the democrats want to see all the memos about returning the question of citizenship it probably means that someone who was in on the decision to exclude the question recalls some very embarrassing notes and memorandums along with Emails that went on in the weeks before and after deciding to not ask this question.

How could the question be controversial.

The census needs to count citizens in order to apportion congressional districts, doesn’t it?

Another freakin' Democrat lie. It was SOP until the '50's, and worked well. The Trump administration is simply trying to reinstate the law to the census documents as it should be. Only citizens of this nation should benefit from the treasure of this nation.
