Gowdy: Because Comey Let Clinton Off, He Likely Won't Face Charges for

According to the Department of Justice Inspector General, fired FBI Director James Comey is under investigation after leaking classified information to a friend last year, who then passed it along to a reporter. The information was contained in a series of memos written by Comey after meetings and phone calls with President Donald Trump.

But despite what the law says about disseminating classified information, Comey may not face conseqences. According to House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, Comey may have saved himself thanks to the exoneration of Hillary Clinton.

"Not by the standard he set in the summer of 2016. God knows how hard it would be to win that case," Gowdy said in response to a question about whether Comey broke the law. "Remember, he ignored the statute that says 'grossly negligent.' He now has a requirement that it has to be intentional and you have to do it to harm the United States. So under the standard that he set in summer 2016 with Secretary Clinton, I don't think Jesus could win that case."

Rep. Trey Gowdy on fallout from release of Comey memos

The release of the memos last week came after Gowdy and a number of leading Republicans threatened the FBI with a subpoena for failing to turn them over by an earlier deadline.

"We have long argued former Director Comey's self-styled memos should be in the public domain, subject to any classification redactions. These memos are significant for both what is in them and what is not," Gowdy released in a joint statement with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes. "Former Director Comey leaked at least one of these memos for the stated purpose of spurring the appointment of Special Counsel, yet he took no steps to spur the appointment of Special Counsel when he had significant concerns about the objectivity of the Department of Justice under Attorney General Loretta Lynch."

An inspector general report about how the FBI and Obama DOJ handled the Clinton email scandal is due to be release any day.

Gowdy is “controlled opposition” just like Darryl Issa and Jason Chaffetz.

“Not by the standard he set in the summer of 2016. God knows how hard it would be to win that case...”

Since when does the criminal get to “define” the crime?

His failure to prosecute Hillary may very well be a crime in itself as he purposely interfered with a criminal investigation.

That's ridiculous!

A criminal gets to set the standard that he is judged by? It should be the written law that sets the standard.

Plus, we know Comey's leaks were intentional. And he did it to interfere in a presidential election and to set up a duly elected president. How is that not "Intential" and "to harm the US"???

What a crock of sh*t from the former, All Star Assit US Attorney. The case was never brought before a Grand Jury, for one. The FBI, or should I say Comey, made the unilateral decision that the case wasn’t worthy. Hell, the case can still be brought before a Grand Jury if our AG had some balls.

When the evidence is presented to a Grand Jury, they make the decision the indictment according to the statute and precedence. Precedence that is set by trials.

Gowdy is just a weasel and nothing but a RINO hack, who wasn’t good for anything but some Kabuki theater during Congressional hearings..

What about all the other folks who have been convicted of accidently removing classified info from their work place? Since the law has now been re-written per Gowdy’s statement, do they also get an out-of-jail-card?

Well heck, we can just retire the Supreme Court and save money by just letting Comey set precedent.

For crying out loud, Comey has admitted the leak. In public. And specified intent - to trigger Mueller's appointment.

Gowdy clearly is a swamp creature in sheep's clothing. Comey's changing of the law means nothing in an honest justice system. The real question, is there any honest left in our federal justice system. Jeff Sessions, please pick up the white courtesy phone. It's your wakeup call, should you choose to accept it.

You have GOT to be kidding me!!! Because Comey says ‘intent’ is a governing factor, we now cannot prosecute for leaking classified info??? Where did my country go???

And people say I’m pessimistic for believing no one will be punished and the DS is winning. Case in point right here.

This is BS and Gowdy knows it. The FBI Director does not set legal precedent by their decision to recommend prosecution or not. The law is on the books and Comey could be prosecuted regardless of his previous corruption. It’s like saying a DA who let’s a mobster off for bribery could never be prosecuted for bribery.
