The nation's police chiefs are rising up against another conservative crime-fighting initiative, sending a letter to leaders of Congress on Thursday opposing a bill that would allow gun owners with concealed-carry permits in one state to carry their concealed weapons in all 50 states.

The letter from the International Association of Chiefs of Police, representing 18,000 police departments across the United States, and Boston Police Commissioner William Evans targets the "Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act," which passed the House in December and is now assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The letter is endorsed by 473 police officials from 39 states, from large departments such as Los Angeles and Atlanta to small departments such as Spanish Fork, Utah, and Falls Church, Virginia.

Pretty sure that every member of the IACP is dependent upon their respective Mayors for their jobs (perhaps City Councils).

So, I view this as predictable noise from the left, and NOT an objective law enforcement assessment.

I’m curious what sheriffs across the nation say, as they are elected by the people.

Around 20 years ago, a magazine which catered to Cops did a survey on gun control. The chiefs were for it but 90% of the beat Cops were strongly against gun controls.

Unbelievable! 2A is a CONSTITUTIONAL right. Drivers Licenses are obviously reciprocal and the automobile kills more Americans than any other besides the government sanctioned and judicially protected Abortion.

I’m not up on thi subject.

I wonder does this entail, or lead to, a federal standard for training and qualification?
Not saying that would be a bad thing, or good.

I’m a huge believer in the 10th amendment, but believe the 2nd supersedes it on these matters.

"Texans for one will be safer when visiting progressive Hell Holes with this."

I am going on a long driving/camping vacation soon, and there are many states I have to avoid since I carry.

It's funny that I wouldn't want to visit those state anyway.

My Doctor who is a Harvard Grad, has the Tenth Amendment framed on his wall. Also a picture of Christ pointing out something to a physician.

Current reciprocity is usually based on equivalency of training and background investigation or lack of any requirements.

Don’t need a law, it’s already in the Constitution.

Article IV, Section 1:

“Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the
public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State”.

If it’s good enough for drivers licenses and marriages, it’s good enough for concealed-carry permits.
