Trump should make an issue of this — plenty of money for Hollywood but stingy with investments to get water.

California can’t compete with all the other places that movies are being shot at now. Giving money to hollyweird is no different than giving money (tax credits)to sports franchises.

Without the tax credits no movie would be shot in California. There are plenty of states standing in line. Texas is one of them.

.....”Without the tax credits no movie would be shot in California. There are plenty of states standing in line. Texas is one of them.”.....

So in other words we’re paying Hollywood so their actors don’t have to leave the state to go to work?

Georgia gives tax credits and has a thriving motion picture industry. See Vampire Diaries and others. Berry College, Rome, Ga. has enjoyed the filming of over 50 movies including scenes from Sweet Home Alabama and Remember The Titans. Athens, Ga. had scenes from Road Trip.

Do they even film much stuff in CA any more? Most film and television that I see is done out of state, especially in Canada. Then again, I watch a lot of Hallmark Channel.

http://deadline.com/2017/05/california-film-production-report-2016-tax-incentives-la-la-land-1202100575/

“Georgia, the world’s undisputed king of blockbuster film production, was home to 17 films that made last year’s list of 100 top-grossing films, followed closely by the UK with 16, Canada with 13, and California in fourth with 12 – only three of which received state tax credits...
Georgia set a record for spending on its incentive program last year – $606 million, which is the largest amount ever spent by any country in North America or Europe in a single year...
The U.K. and Canada have both usurped California and the United States as global centers for VFX work”
