[ Your questions seem to indicate youre unaware that Israel has always been our footprint in the middle east..... most recognize that Israels taking out the nuke in Iran and Syria were not done without our awareness. ]
Israel is an ally, a good ally, but they are not our 51st state. They should handle “Local Issue” over there, not us.
We have enough local issues that we have been ignoring because we are too damned busy playing world cop. Syria is a Civil War... It is more Israel’s problem as they border them than our problem.
In other news, Liberace was gay.
[ Interestingly, the US spends far less helping Israel militarily than it does helping any of Japan, Germany, or Korea.
And, unlike those countries, where US soldiers are the predominate forward force (especially near Japan), US troops seldom suffer at the tip of the spear for Israel.
Now, as someone who flies F-16s for a living, I do certainly appreciate US Aid. As the US (presumably) appreciates the hundreds of US pilots I have trained. ]
I am okay with Selling weapons to Israel, but also we shouldn’t be selling weapons to countries that hate Israel.
We don’t live in middle east, Israel does, Israel is a sovereign country and not our 51st state.
The Syria situation is an internal civil war, they haven’t invaded anyone ( unless you count ISIS, google “john McCain ISIS” ).
Israel is strong and smart, saying we need to invade Syria is basically calling them weak little incompetent wimps who cannot handle their own local issues.
No tax money from the US should ever be sent to Israel unless we want to make it into the 51st state. Israel has had over 3 generations to build up their country and stand on their own. I don’t want Israel to slide into becoming another “European welfare state” like France, Sweden, or Germany. Who always relied on us defending them from the Russians so they could waste money on their welfare state and become the weak soft bellied roll overs to domestic invasion like they are today.
All valid points, except the “three generations.”
During the last 30-40 years, Israel has swallowed up immigrants who were kicked out of the various Muslim countries and ran from the Soviet Union.
Collectively, they make up ~50% of our population.
They arrived essentially penniless and not speaking the language.
It’s been pretty rough.
...and he was a homosexual too!
“Vaginas dont have testicles.”
Well, not their own, anyway.

Well I was talking int terms of time 1947 - 2018 which is ~ 60 years and 20 years per generation.. You could argue for 2 generations as well each taking 30 years, but you made a good point about the demographics.
I think the best thing we can do for Israel is Strong Bi-Lateral Trade both in technology and Expertise. Israel is the only country in the middle east not built over a giant Oil deposit unlike a majority of the Muslim countries that have squandered their wealth on trinkets and spreading jihad. Israel is truly a miracle in the desert.
As for any sort of direct subsidization of things like defense, infrastructure, etc.. I don’t think we should be doing any of that for ANY of the countries in the middle east or for that sake the rest of the world.
If we send a country that hates Israel a billion bucks, we then have to send Israel a billion bucks to “balance the books” I am of the position to send that hateful country ZERO so we don’t have to send any “Balancing funds” to Israel.
The only way we should be militarily involved in the middle east is only under one very specific condition.
If Israel is directly invaded by one or more countries and it looks like they won’t be able to win, or it will be hard for them to drive out the invasion, as our ally we should then provide direct military support to Israel against their aggressors.
I am pretty sure that Nuclear Armed Israel, like the United States, knows the repercussions of proactive geopolitical diplomacy.
Coming from a Ronald Reagan loving family, the more I find out about Ronnie’s work in the White House, the more I am convinced that he was a good actor.
No no no. We must support Israel at every turn! Their our bestest buddy, except for that little USS Liberty incident and Johnathan Pollard...We must look the opposite way on that.
They do. But they take every opportunity to complain, when retaliation occurs.
Wonder how the “We don’t care if gas was used or who did it, we can’t do nuthin’ to piss off Assad and Putin...” crowd is taking this....

Didn’t know you switched planes. ;)
No, that’s what I’ve always flown (pretty much). I tried out for F-15 and didn’t make the cut.
