'Billions' 'Mounts the Resistance' Against Trump-Appointed Attorney General

Showtime’s Billions, a show that traditionally shied away from getting too political, has tossed its hat into the ring and joined the tirade of TV shows attacking the Trump administration.

The third season premiere introduced Trump-appointed attorney general Waylon Jeffcoat (Clancy Brown), an evil, redneck Jeff Sessions parody who demanded that U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) refrain from prosecuting cases against Wall Street. In Sunday’s episode, “A Generation Too Late,” Jeffcoat demands that Rhoades prosecute an innocent man. As a result, Rhoades tells one of his colleagues: “We, the Maquisards, will mount the resistance. We will not let this son of a bitch define justice for the SDNY.”

Jeffcoat tells Rhoades to prosecute José Lugo, a convicted felon who killed a federal prison guard. However, after looking into the case, Rhoades discovers that while being held on drug charges, a federal guard attacked Lugo and left him with “orbital ridge fracture, teeth, internal bleeding, [and] splintered wood in the rectum.” Twenty-five prisoners backed up the statement and the other prison guards refused to go on record. “José Lugo is the kind of person we are here to protect,” another one of Rhoades’ colleagues states.

Notice how "Billions" has remained mostly unpolitical until THIS season when it basically joined The Resistance?

BTW, their portrayal of Jock Jeffcoat as a crude Texas redneck is so over the top ridiculous that it ends up as being HILARIOUS.

I’ve never heard of the show. It must be really popular.

I’m just obtuse, I guess. There was nothing in the episode that struck me as being anti-Trump.

Sounds like the old Dallas TV show in the 70’s with J.R. Ewing at the Billionair helm.

Except the protagonist in Billions is under constant attack from New York’s Southern District court by an attorney whose wife performs sado-masochism on him at home, while in the employ of the protagonist as a corporate therapist. It’s quite a show.

” a show that traditionally shied away from getting too political,”

BS From the very beginning this show has been a “We must get those evil 3 percenters no matter what it takes” show.

Sure....but the sympathetic figure by design and by it’s writing in the entire series is the 3 percenter Axelrod.

All of the government figures are portrayed in the worst light.

Newsbusters really swung and missed on this one.

"I’ve never heard of the show. It must be really popular."

DITTO.

But then too, I've never been on FaceBook either.

Maybe time has passed me by, eh?

Thanks for telling me. I can watch men being beaten up by seventy pound ninja girls on a multitude of shows. I don’t need to watch the sexual side of it.

Funny, I love the show and I find no parody of the Trump administration.

You don’t think AG call up U.S attorneys and ask them to prioritize and re-prioritise agendas?

I take no offense at the southern texas drawl. It traditionally thought of as trustworthy and folksy.

As for asking to stop some of the Wall street investigations if you remember, they played up that the Paul Giamatti character (the U.S attorney) was consumed past the point of reason with prosecuting Axl holdings and the previous AG had hinted he should back off too.

What about the part where the AG asks Chuck to prosecute an innocent man because the AG reads Breitbart?

Nope, didn’t find anything odd about it. It’s a literary device to draw the audience in favorably to the U.S attorney who lost all credibility last season.

I don’t think so much they’ve said the man is innocent but rather under duress full mitigating circumstances. I.E being repeatedly tortured by a guard that was later found shived to death.

I think they are implying he is innocent of his original crime but under suspicion for the murder of a prison guard.

I have the first season scheduled on Netflix, mostly because I love Damien Lewis.

You’ll love it, notwithstanding the posters on this thread who felt it necessary to tell us they never heard of it. I can understand their ignorance, but it’s their seeming pride in it that passes me by.

You are so right. I’m into Season 2 (on demand) and I really enjoy the show. I haven’t noticed any anti-Trump scenarios. It is just a great show to watch. Maybe the deniers here just can’t afford to get Showtime.
