President Donald Trump Monday condemned the alleged chemical attack in Syria saying, “It was atrocious, it was horrible.”
During a meeting with his Cabinet on Monday, the president said intelligence assessments are underway and his administration will be making "some major decisions" on Syria over the next 24-48 hours. He later said a decision could be made "later today."
When asked about possible U.S. military action, Trump said: "Nothing's off the table."
“This is about humanity and it can’t be allowed to happen,” he said. “If it’s the Russians, if it’s Syria, if it's Iran, if it’s all of them together, we’ll figure it out.
Over the weekend, Trump took to Twitter to call the situation in Syria a “mindless chemical attack” while also pointing the finger at “President Putin, Russia, and Iran” for “backing Animal Assad.”

Some of the knee-jerk reaction here on FR is embarrassing.
The evidence is coming in, this is not a fabrication. Assad (defending Christians or not) is a bad actor. Russia, is questionable if not out right a bad actor. Iran is a bad actor.
The world is full of other bad actors that "kill innocents" but in this particular case, WMD (chemical agents) were used and that is a red line in the international community. Now we aren't the world police but it is most definitely in our national interests to not turn our backs to such deeds. The ME is a messed up place, but we cant ignore this completely either. We have allies in the region, we have economic interests in the region. 9/11 proved that we cant ignore what happens in the 3rd world countries, and even more so when chem, bio, or nuclear threats may result

We do not belong in Syria. Now that the ISIS situation is manageable, our moral obligation is done as best it can be. If our troops were guarding the Turkish-Syrian border to keep the Turkish military out, that would be somewhat understandable. All we’re doing now is enabling McCain’s Terrorists. If Syria wants our help to continue the fight, let them ask us for assistance.

The end result is Egypt is no longer safe as the radicals now have a foothold in key positions in Egypt.
Israel doesn’t want to get involved in Syria and nor should we.
I agree. We send troops thousands of miles to places that mean nothing to the U.S., yet have thousands streaming across our Southern border.

The biggest flaw in your narrative is that we saw the same scenario play out almost exactly a year ago ... and it turned out the "WMDs" in that case were very likely stockpiles that had been stored by ISIS insurgents and dispersed in the surrounding area when the building was destroyed in a conventional attack.
The days of U.S. military campaigns being carried out for the benefit of Saudi and Kuwaiti real estate investment partners of the Bush family should have ended the moment Donald Trump was inaugurated.

Not that I have easy answers or alternatives to offer. But the Assad lovefest is a bit over the top.
The biggest disappointment with me regarding Trump so far is his foreign policy decisions. Going around attacking countries for “alleged” things has gotten VERY tiresome for me. Show me the proof. In fact, even if you do show me proof, I’m still not interested in attacking Assad. Overthrowing dictators is not America’s concern. The wastelands that came after Gaddafi, Hussein, and the rest of the Middle East should have made this clear. It’s looking like Trump’s foreign policy is getting closer to what I didn’t vote for.
Time to relearn this old lesson: In the Middle East, the leaders are often far more reasonable than the average person on the street. Remove the dictators at your peril. What follows is often far worse.
If one our our planes drops a regular bomb on a enemy weapons depot and it sets off stored chemical weapons are we at fault? That’s quite possibly what happened the last Syrian chemical weapons incident.
