The USDA said 458,000 tonnes of U.S. soybeans were sold to undisclosed destinations, which traders and grains analysts said included EU soybean processors such as the Netherlands and Germany.
If the entire volume is confirmed to be going to the European Union, it would be the largest one-off sale to the bloc in more than 15 years, according to USDA data. The USDA could not immediately be reached for comment.
Were seeing a realignment of trade, largely because the politics is driving up Brazilian soybean prices, said Jack Scoville, analyst with the Price Futures Group.
Traders and analysts said the unusual trade flows were likely to continue in the near term, benefiting U.S. Gulf Coast shippers and likely hurting exporters in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, the No. 2 bulk grain outlet that relies heavily on Chinese demand.

Count is 0-1. Xi in the batter box...Trump on the mound...shakes off the catcher's signal...Pelosi takes a lead off first...Oh! Nancy gets picked off!
Are you trying to say that if China put big tariffs on our soybeans that U.S. farmers could just sell them to someone else?
Does anyone else know about this secret marketing ploy?
Because according to the experts on the tv all the farmers are going out of business due to a Trump tweet about tariffs.
Gets even better...
“The current-season shipments are slated for loading from May to July, they said, typically the height of Brazils export season and a low point for U.S. shipments.”
Freight volume gonna rise in late spring early summer for Gulf Ports.
EXACTLY.
There is a fixed amount of food grown throughout the world.
Right now, a lot of American food is sold to China.
If China buys it from somewhere else, then that other place will have LESS FOOD.
And they will buy American food.
The net result, no change.
This is one of the most misunderstood parts of the agricultural products market of the world. You only have X-amount grown...that amount might shift 10-percent up because of a really great year, or shrink 10-percent because of a bad year. But no one is creating new farmlands out of thin air.
It’s like the cattle story when you had that really cold spell that killed off tens of thousands of cattle. The market shrunk, and US producers of beef for roughly 12-to-24 months made a ton of extra money because the market was tight.
China will go through some acting here but all they did was reshuffle the deck....there’s still only 52 cards in the deck...no matter how many times you reshuffle.
You just figured out why the country is in such bad shape!
All the experts who know how to do everything are employed by CNN and MSNBC instead of working for the government!
We are not on the ropes, yet, but China was about to take us down utterly and we were not even in the fight.
Thank God for Trump. Another 8 years and we would have been goners, able to do not a thing.
It's a lot worse than a tiff about soybeans. A whole lot worse, and the fumblestuck bureaucrats just watch and think it's all just ok, this internationalism globalism stuff.
For example: almonds. Some stores ran out for months and prices through the roof. Now, they are plentiful and cheaper. Asian demand is not reliable any longer.
I think we might also have a wild joker...
Could in fact be, that the sale reported is actually by China, preparing for the trade standoff.
It is exactly what they might be expected to do.
Doesn’t really matter who. It is offset against the coming standoff anyway.
Go Trump. You are 100% right. Very proud of you.
Nobody else in government for the last entire generation, has had the ... nerve ... to stand up for America.
Nobody. Everyone has been sold out.
Everyone.
Finally. There is an American leader, who is actually for America.
“Trump-voting Gulf Coast ports benefit, Trump-hating Left Coast ports lose.”
Never thought about it that way. Very Good!
President Trump laid the aluminum and steel tariffs on all countries, giving waivers when the US gets a fair and reciprocal trade agreement.
China levied a tariff on imports from the USA.
Big difference.
Countries simply re-align their source of product.
China buys much needed food from someone else.
US sells its product to the customer now left short.
Big surprise, so instead of straight from the U.S. to China, now it’s U.S. to EU to China. The wind up the throw the wiffle ball!
I don’t see why a dutch company wouldn’t buy US soybeans and then resell it to the chinese.
