Of course the support for free goodies is rising, it is called parasites and sloth. The real reason America cannot have a Nordic style welfare state is America does not have the North Sea oil fields to support such largesse.

Norway is in for a very rude awakening as the fields are starting to run out.

Americans are in for a very rude awakening as our debt bubble we all inflated to feed the parasites is about to crash down on our future generations.

NEVER borrow money to feed the “poor”.

And yet, we do, somehow, manage to have some nice things: Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, universal public schools.

...which are breaking the back of our society. I would like to see this air head live on the said programs and have her understand who actually pays for them. The Millennial is the most worthless American generation ever and educated by the pathetic and useless "universal public schools".

I predict Sweden will be the first model of Nordic style socialism to fail because they have been the least prudent of allowing not only the parasitic class, but the violent predatory class to move in and settle.

They have already sold their flagship brand Volvo to the Red Chinese to buy a little more time.

Looks like poor Elizabeth Bruenig is having a millennial mid-life crisis at the age of 27. In 10 more years, she’ll be a client for meals-on-wheels and checking out nursing homes featuring yoga and safe places in broom closets and boiler rooms.

Well, they’ll be inheriting our debt and still have no clue how it accumulated.

GREAT definitions. Did you borrow a quote, or are those your ad-hoc thoughts? I’ve already shared with others, and just want to know if attribution is necessary.

Poor little girl. She does not understand that the purpose of these programs is to create dependency on the government. People who buy into the promises of these programs tend not to prepare for their own futures, and then when they figure out that these programs give them barely anything, it is too late to go back and prepare. At that point, they vote for the politicians they perceive are taking care of them, who tell them that if they vote Republican, even their crumbs will be taken away.

“The ideal is to give people security without taking away their freedom. Its a tough balancing act.”

That depends on your definition of freedom and security! By MY definition of those two words it is NOT a tough balancing act it is entirely impossible. In fact I would call it almost a contradiction in terms. How can one be both secure and free?

While my thinking is obviously influenced by others, particularly our foundeing fathers, the words were my own.
