The proposed legislation would change the guidance in California’s use of force laws so that police may open fire ”‘only when necessary’ rather than ‘when reasonable

It can't be any other way. If deadly force is not necessary and there is another way then it's NOT REASONABLE. Using deadly force any other time is murder. California is trying to do something right for a change. It's unbelievable to me that we need special laws for police to follow the constitution.

We keep convicted criminals on death row for decades and go through appeal after appeal sometimes all the way to the supreme court to make sure we don't kill someone who does not deserve a death sentence. At the same time we just wantonly accept police shooting unarmed people because they "didn't comply" or the officer felt threatened or the "suspect" had an object in their hands or they were hacking at a tree with knife. This is not acceptable, ever. Where in the hell are peoples minds these days?

Raising the standard from reasonable to necessary will also put into hyperdrive the transfer of wealth from the public treasury into the pockets of Dem lawyers and constituents who “win” the police shooting lottery. No police shooting would ever be necessary enough to avoid a major payout.

More like cops quitting en masse. Why would you work a job where you’re a sitting duck ?

Maybe they can be like England. No guns on any street officer, they need to call swat out for any armed response. When seconds count, good guy with a gun is an hour away.

Yeah, I just read about the fiasco in AZ the scotus just ruled on. That one was an oddball for sure. ⚖. Hard to say what's what if you aren't on scene when it goes down,

Absolutely classic: One-off event generates a new California law. Surprised they are not calling it “Stephon’s Law”.

“in reality, cops can only shoot when “necessary” for self defense, defense of others, or to apprehend a felon fleeing from a serious felony”

Correct. Nothing changes.

Except the few show trials they must have to prove they changed something.

Good old Buster Keaton! Must have had one of the longest careers in movies ever . . . last appearance was I think “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” -

Looking forward to seeing how well this works. Californians being enlightened, superior yet tolerant and peace loving, it should work very well. Its a case of Californians knowing what they want and deserving to get it good and hard!

Make the police abide by the same firearms and magazine capacity laws that the California civilian population have to observe.

A lot of LEOs are going to die waiting for a callback from a lawyer clearing them to shoot. Many military people have died from this kind of leftist, ROE bull****.

The one “stand down” rule on police I’d very much like to see is a real limitation on high speed road chases. They endanger hundreds, sometimes thousands of innocent citizens racing after some damned thief at 100 mph

Why don’t we simply let everyone do whatever the hell what it is they want to do do; no rules, no cops and no laws. They can all kill each other and leave the rest of us alone
