Post Office subsidizes Amazon's shipping cost
Twitter ^ | 31-Mar-2018 | Donald Trump

...does not include the Fake Washington Post, which is used as a “lobbyist” and should so REGISTER. If the P.O. “increased its parcel rates, Amazon’s shipping costs would rise by $2.6 Billion.” This Post Office scam must stop. Amazon must pay real costs (and taxes) now!

Time to change the postal rates.

Why is any shipper subsidized?

Why is any shipper subsidized?

I would think,in Amazon's case. because of its volume of use.

Because somewhere - somehow - a democrat got a kickback.

I saw a quip in a recent article mentioning a law Congress passed that hamstrings the USPS from directly bidding against private enterprises like Fedex and UPS. Supposedly, Amazon plays that to their big advantage.

I can’t find anything further on that. Anyone have anything on this?

If true, then all Customers are subsidizing Amazon with higher rates. The ridiculous increase in rates for small package overseas has decimated my Mail Order Vinyl business. $23 to ship a 9 oz. package to the UK for instance.

...according to Citigroup and other special interests. But not really. There’s more to the story than that. The P.O. gets a profit from the Amazon deal.

Hmmmm....losing money on every package,
but
the post office will make it up on volume.

Must be the new math.

“I would think,in Amazon’s case. because of its volume of use”

That works for manufacturers, economy of scale. The USPS I highly doubt, the more they ship the more they lose in all probability.

Having said that, I probably receive more packages with Amazon Contract “White Panel Van” Delivery Service than the USPS now.

Bezos is worth 240 billion, and the post office loses money on every amazon package it delivers. This deal was made when obama was in office.

These are the shipping from all the private delivery companies who deliver to the local PO and have them deliver them the rest of the way home.

Horrible, especially to all the people who don’t have home mailing addresses.

I still pause to reflect when I see USPS trucks out on Sunday. They probably get double time on Sundays.

I have heard that one of the STRONGEST lobbying forces in Washington are the Postal Cost Lobby group. Time to have everyone pay their fare share.

Yeah, Amazon convinced the Post Office that they would make it up on volume. ;-)

As a proponent of free-market capitalism, I say, kick his arse Mr. President, before he uses his power to further erode capitalism for future generations via The Washington Post.

Isn’t that because Dubya the scumbag, who never criticized Obama, but slams Trump freely, let the USPS end international surface mail? I gave the lazy bastard a pass over Katrina, but the reality is that he was too busy doing non-productive things to actually work at the things that affect people on a practical level. His restrictive rules of engagement caused thousands of GI deaths, which gave us the big Democratic majorities in 2006 and 2008. (It probably didn’t help that he was instrumental in trying to push an illegal alien amnesty through. He was a major league scumbag - he only stabbed his own voters in the back).

“Main street” and the banksters shot down their own game by way of capstoning (2 times product cost), abusing local governments against new competition and other evil practices. The rackets were bound to end sometime. If you want competition again, loosen up on zoning and other regulations along with the big fee and tax regime. Invite real competition and play it straight.

If Trump wants to go after Amazon, he should shutdown guest worker visas & let Bezos pay market rate for Tech labor.
