Trump signs $1.3 trillion budget after ‘reality show’ drama

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump grudgingly signed a $1.3 trillion federal spending measure Friday and averted a midnight government shutdown — but only after undercutting his own negotiators and setting off a mini-panic with a last-minute veto threat. The episode further eroded the already damaged credibility of both the president and a White House staff that had assured the nation he was onboard.

Trump said he was “very disappointed” in the package, in part because it did not fully pay for his planned border wall with Mexico and did not extend protection from deportation to some 700,000 “Dreamer” immigrants due to lose coverage under a program the president himself has moved to eliminate.

But Trump praised the bill’s provisions to increase military spending and said he had “no choice but to fund our military.”

“My highest duty is to keep America safe,” he said.

You can be mad at Trump all you want, but they had the votes to override a veto. Had he vetoed it, and Congress had overridden his veto, the press would have had a field day.

I’m not happy with it, but I am more mad at the Republicans in Congress than I am with Trump.

“Trump said he was “very disappointed” in the package, in part because it did not fully pay for his planned border wall with Mexico and did not extend protection from deportation to some 700,000 “Dreamer” immigrants...”

How many times did he mention the poor dreamers in his press conference. Obama or Luis Gutierrez wouldn’t have kissed their asses more. He really thinks he’s going to get the mexican vote by slobbering after them like that???

“more mad at the Republicans in Congress than I am with Trump.”

I think they are not thinking straight or
they are trolls.

Yes, some things in the bill are bad but not all.

I'm very disappointed he didn't have the backbone to stand up to them. Fine, let the government shut down. Eliminate 99% of it. Scare Congress back into working for their constituents.

So, in fairness, we had 60 million or so people vote for Trump.

They’ve been hated, berated, talked down to, talked about, made fun of, beaten, blocked, their voices shut down...

WE all know what’s been going on in the media, sports and entertainment when it comes to our President and to his supporters.

We mostly agreed here that at LEAST Trump fought back, he wouldn’t just take it, and he’d return a punch.

So what did all 60 million of us do?

There are what, 200,000 or so, posting on Free Republic?

That means we’re 0.333333333 percent of 60 million.

So where is everyone, and why are they, too, not fighting back?

We’re going to lose our country.

I watched in Alabama, my home state, when more than HALF of those who voted for Donald Trump stayed home a year later and let a liberal democrat win Jeff Sessions seat. So what can I say?

I won’t hate on Trump. He tries, fights, and fights again, but it is clearly not enough if we 60 million don’t do anything but vote every 4 years.

I understand all of the tactics that are being used by the never Trumpers and the Demonrats/media. I will not be a never Trumpers or be influenced by the swamp to become discouraged this fall election. It just pisses me off to no end to be lied to. I know there is a lot of animosity for Bannon but he had the right idea to primary the swamp creatures out.Thats the only humanly strategy possibility. Other than that, we just wait for the end of the age.

We have a general willing to fight the Deep State, but his troops in DC are either too scared to fight back or are so compromised they’re stabbing him in the back. We need to also put some blame on our own voters. What the hell is wrong with the people in the first congressional district in Wisconsin who keep voting for Paul Ryan. The same should be asked of voters in Kentucky and Arizona who keep voting in the likes of McConnell, McCain and Flake! I’m not excusing President Trump for this blunder today, but what happened today is also the result of us continually voting for all of these Deep State puppets and sellouts!

I see a lot of shock and overreaction about Trump signing the Omnibus bill. I am not surprised at all. Trump is out there by himself and all of DC hates his guts. So he is fairly weak, impotent and isolated.

Trump did what he had to do — sign the bill he was given. Trump probably asked “should I sign it?” “Yes, Mr. President you must sign it or you will lose even more bigly.” Trump said “I don’t want to lose even more bigly.”
So he signed it.

Trump still has had some successes and he will continue on. The world is not coming to an end. But there will be no wall. No one in DC wants a wall except Trump.

Correct. This keeps the show running through the mid-term elections. Come January a new Congress can start fresh and get things done right. That’s why it’s critical to get a filibuster-proof Senate and increase the majority in the House.

He definitely seemed defeated at that presser. Mattis probably told him how dangerous it would be not to get 3/4 of a trillion dollars (an absolute lie). Mattis needs to go.that being said the buck stops with Trump. He signed it. He should have said, yes, this absolutely leaves us vulnerable and we may get attacked because of this but I won’t sign it until Congress sends me a real bill. Until that, any attack on this country falls squarely in the lap of those putting in silly riders into the bill.ill be at my desk, come get me when there is a bill to sign. He’s controlled by the military liars until he says something like that

Don’t blame President Trump.

Blame the media.
Blame Trump’s economic advisors.
Blame the Democrats
Blame the RINO’s
Blame the people that voted for Obama.
Blame the people that voted for Hillary.

It’s not President Trump’s fault.
