Well, she did cut off the gas block and part of the tube but all that means is the rifle wouldn't eject the spent shell and reload itself.
It was still capable of firing and could be cycled manually.
My guess is she won't face any consequences due to politics.

As I read the law, an immigrant alien cannot buy an AR in Virginia. So, which is it, was it her gun and she lied, or was it her hubby who possessed it illegally. Someone should ask her officially.
