NEA: Parents, educators ‘overwhelmingly reject’ idea of arming school staff

Bringing guns into schools ‘does nothing to protect’ our students, educators from gun violence

Washington, DC - February 21, 2018 -

In a listening session at the White House today, Donald Trump proposed to arm teachers and school staff in an attempt to prevent mass shootings.

The following can be attributed to NEA President Lily Eskelsen García:

“Bringing more guns into our schools does nothing to protect our students and educators from gun violence. Our students need more books, art and music programs, nurses and school counselors; they do not need more guns in their classrooms. Parents and educators overwhelmingly reject the idea of arming school staff. Educators need to be focused on teaching our students. We need solutions that will keep guns out of the hands of those who want to use them to massacre innocent children and educators. Arming teachers does nothing to prevent that.

“We owe it to the students and school personnel, who’ve lost their lives at schools and on campuses across the country, to work together so that we can thoughtfully and carefully develop common sense solutions that really will save lives.”

The National Education Association represents 3 million educators who work in America’s public schools and on college campuses.

If parents and kids had a choice, they’d overwhelmingly choose a school that has armed employees.

But hey, what’s the truth when you have liberalism?

The “E” in NEA has nothing to do with education.
Please remember that if you want your children to have a good education, avoid NEA types at all costs.
If you want them taught science, get a good science major.
Same for any of the humanities.
What is NOT needed is a dammed worthless degree in “eddikashun”.
Fire these clowns and let’s get some teachers back in schools.
Teachers, not “educators”.

“Bringing more guns into our schools does nothing to protect our students and educators from gun violence.”

If so, then the NEA Security Services membership might want to find another organization to represent them.

Fine with me; I don’t have kids in school. But don’t come crying to me when they’re massacred.

My daughter is an excellent marksman and kindergarten teacher. I’d rather police sub stations be placed in school parking lots than arming teachers.
