Trump tiptoes toward possible fight with NRA
The Hill ^ | February 22, 2018 | JONATHAN EASLEY AND LYDIA WHEELER

On Thursday morning, Trump tweeted support for background checks, new age limits on some gun purchases and the end of the the sale of bump stocks.

I will be strongly pushing Comprehensive Background Checks with an emphasis on Mental Health. Raise age to 21 and end sale of Bump Stocks! Congress is in a mood to finally do something on this issue - I hope!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 22, 2018

“Legislative proposals that prevent law-abiding adults aged 18-20 years old from acquiring rifles and shotguns effectively prohibits them for purchasing any firearm, thus depriving them of their constitutional right to self-protection,” NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker said.

“We need serious proposals to prevent violent criminals and the dangerously mentally ill from acquiring firearms. Passing a law that makes it illegal for a 20-year-old to purchase a shotgun for hunting or an adult single mother from purchasing the most effective self-defense rifle on the market punishes law-abiding citizens for the evil acts of criminals.”

Frankly, if gun control advocates don’t back down, no one will be well served.

If they want talking points instead of serious solutions, they can keep them.

For me, freedom is non-negotiable. We can agree on when people can buy firearms but a flat ban on people’s freedom to buy them is absolutely out of the question.

We won’t find common ground with the Left for sure.

If one web searches the articles of the last two days, one gets articles from “Trump praises NRA, calls them patriots” to articles like this.

Good insight on the situation .
The WH is all NE staff and gun control is a good idea in that echo chamber .
Good bye midterms .

They’re good questions.

Every Americans wants guns to be kept out of the hands of mentally ill/unstable people.

At the same you have to have due process to make sure no one is arbitrarily deprived of their RKBA and to get it back should they be able to function in society again.

Its a complicated issue and there’s no quick and simple solution to this problem. That’s why we must make sure it does what its meant to do.

And if not, then leave things as they are.

The Cruz-ers are giving us their doomsday scenario that serves their do-nothing senator. Thanks to their version, 70% of total immigration each year (1.3 immigrants), chain migration, continues as they push their do-nothingness on all of us. Doing nothing means no wall (under construction), no increased border security, nada.

Yup. We just can’t go around taking away guns from people without good reason.

The reason we have the BOR is to prevent temporary and transient majorities from infringing on the rights of others.

If they get it their way, we might well scrap the Constitution.

Our deliberative system of government frustrates liberals who demand we do something.

But nothing done in haste ever ended up doing any good. That’s exactly the point.

The cowardice of the school deputy who was on site at the shooting and who did nothing gives We The People (and the NRA) a powerful pushback against the gun grabbers.

The Trump and his WH are making a huge mistake here .
The midterms are too close to be appearing to support Sen Flakes
Gun control disaster .
It smells like a set up by his enemy Senator Flake .

Seriously, these people want us to trust our safety and very lives to political hacks?

That’s good for a laugh and that’s the whole megillah about banning guns right then and there.

And I still would be loath to have gun owners give up their guns even if our government was caring and competent.

We were not meant to be a nation of serfs.

So a 20 year-old combat vet comes home and can’t own a semi-auto?

So a 19 year-old coed living on her own can’t buy a semi-auto to protect herself against the ever increasing numbers of creeps, crazies, and perverts infesting American society?

Both have to rely on often incompetent(see Las Vegas and Parkland for recent examples among many)LEO’s to “protect” them?

Wake up, Mr. Trump. Don’t go there.

They can’t drink alcohol.

I have no problem with setting the age at 21 years.

Something tells me it won’t happen.

The Left doesn’t want common-sense reform, they want confiscation.

Let them run on it in the mid-terms.

Cruz started throwing eggs at Speno’s car with no warning, Speno recalled. He and a friend chased Cruz back to his house. "We were pissed off, so we knocked on the door and his mom came out," Speno said. When the two told her what happened, Cruz’s mom had a strange reaction. "She said, ‘No, my son would never do that. He’s inside sleeping,’ " Speno recalled.

If they are too young to buy a gun, then they are too young to buy alcohol or to VOTE!

How to you equate drinking booze with the right to defend yourself?

If you’re old enough to vote, to kill in the name of “defending freedom,” and to pay taxes you’re old enough to buy a semi-auto rifle. Period.

Because society has made a collective judgment young people’s minds and bodies can’t handle everything.

So it makes them wait until they’re older and more mature.

I’d like to see the voting raised back to 21.

You recommend a benzodiazepine during a discussion about mass murders? Now, that right there is some morbid humor!

Very true .
Very Sad but dangerous for everyone else .
Before the APA let the mentally wander the streets in the 1970s .
People like this were treated and protected from themselves.

The same do gooder gun grabbers use them as a excuse to unarm us .

Trump may have fallen for this logic .
