The Russian Attack Against America You Didn’t Hear About
World Affairs Journal ^ | 19 February 2018 | Michael J. Totten

Posted on 02/22/2018 3:53:51 AM PST by BeadCounter

You probably didn’t hear this because few media organizations have even mentioned it, but Russia committed an act of war against the United States a little more than a week ago. No, this is not about more social media and election shenanigans. Russia mounted an armed assault against American soldiers and our allies in Syria, including Kurdish security forces affiliated with the People’s Protection Units, or YPG, at a military base in the city of Deir Ezzor, the largest in eastern Syria. Russian combatants fought alongside Assad regime fighters and Shia militias armed, funded and directed by Iran.

Both the Pentagon and the Kremlin are going out of their way to keep this as quiet as possible. If you only read the New York Times story about the incident on February 13, you’d have to squint and zero in on the subtext. After the United States used air and drone strikes to obliterate incoming assailants, including dozens of Russians, American military spokespeople assured the press in calm tones that there was never any chance that Russian and American forces would clash directly in Deir Ezzor or anywhere else. The Kremlin, for its part, said any Russians who might have participated in the assault were mercenaries unaffiliated with the Russian armed forces.

Shocking story, the blog article above is rather dry but the link to the NYT explains it better. It is all sourced to government statements on both sides.

The writer of the article is a leftist propagandist. He does not care one iota about the USA.

Assad is the rightful, elected leader of Syria. If Syrians want a dictator running their country, then so be it.

Fighting Assad with rebel proxy’s (and them using Russian, Iranian allies) is not an attack on America.

It’s like saying that China attacked America when we were fighting the VietCong in South Vietnam during the 1960s.

Y'all would do well to bookmark the "Michael J. Totten" site and read his articles on a regular basis.
Only because he gives a different perspective on what's going on from the on-the-ground-view around the world, instead of 40K feet up.
I don't know him or his agenda, he seems like a straight shooter, though.

The Hamburg cell that launched the 9/11 attacks was led by a Syrian Imam and a Syrian-born German known for connections to Syria’s intelligence agency.

From the old 2003 article: ... al-Qaeda operative al-Zarqawi is known to have traveled from Baghdad to Syria and Lebanon, meeting with leaders from Hizballah and other extremists in southern Lebanon...

To today where the late al Zarqawi, as we now know, was the guy who went on to cofound ISIS with Iraqi general al Dhouri...

That attack was testing Trump. They figured they’ll kill the US special forces and then hide behind the “plausible deniability”, but the Christmas came the other way and they got wiped out. Mattis was able to say with a smirk that “there were no Russian forces killed as we called the Russians and they said they are not attacking us”.

Why are we in Syria in the first place? To overthrow Assad? What happens if you do? How many years will we have troops in there?

>>> It’s like saying that China attacked America when we were fighting the VietCong in South Vietnam during the 1960s.

There weren’t any Chinese in Vietnam (except for the non-communists in Cho Lon.) The Vietnamese hate the Chinese. In fact China has been unsuccessfully invading Vietnam about every 30 or 40 years for the last 1300 years.

The last Sino-Vietnam war was in 1979, 4 years after we left Saigon. China sent 200,000 troops and about 200 tanks across the border. They managed to push about 20 kilometers into Vietnam before being stopped. China withdrew after about 2 months. Chinese casualties were 9000 dead, 10000 wounded, 550 military vehicles and 115 artillery pieces destroyed and captured.

It was soon after this 1979 war that Vietnam purged the ethnic Chinese from their population sending them out to sea in small boats and rafts, i.e. the Vietnam boat-people migration we all remember from 1979 into the early 80s.

“... You fools! Don’t you realize what it means if the Chinese remain? Don’t you remember your history? The last time the Chinese came, they stayed a thousand years. The French are foreigners. They are weak. Colonialism is dying. The white man is finished in Asia. But if the Chinese stay now, they will never go. As for me, I prefer to sniff French shit for five years than to eat Chinese shit for the rest of my life.”

We are in Syria because Soros wants to build a pipeline through there.

Assad said no.

So Soros got Obama to attack Syria.

Why we continue under Trump I do not know.

Correct. Any article about the US role in Syria should state in the first paragraph that the US Fed. Gov. gave billions of weapons and training to Syrian al-Qaeda.

The “Washington Institute for Near East Policy” is a spin off of AIPAC. It’s officially part of the Israel Lobby and is not a reliable source for information. WINEP was heavily involved in spreading false information in support of the invasion of Iraq. They have been pushing for a US attack on Syria and also want the US to have a war with Iran.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Washington_Institute_for_Near_East_Policy

This particular lie is very similar to the claim they peddled that Iraq was behind al-Qaeda.

What the hell are American troops doing there in the first place? Haven’t we gotten the message yet? Wasn’t Libya or Iraq enough?

You’re reply is “industrial strength stupid”. If you read people who have actually been on the ground in Syria instead MSM plods you might realise how manipulated you are.
