Jared Kushner’s Security Clearance Issues Roiling White House

The White House said Jared Kushner will not be affected by any policy changes made regarding security clearances, even though he still has an interim security clearance 13 months into the job. “Nothing that has taken place will affect the valuable work that Jared is doing,” Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said at the White House briefing on Tuesday.

Chief of Staff John Kelly last week ordered changes to how the White House manages security clearance investigations, after staffer Rob Porter continued to access top secret material even after claims of domestic abuse by two ex-wives were reported to the FBI.

Porter had been working under an interim security clearance, raising scrutiny over the 30 to 40 White House staffers who are also working with interim security clearances, including the president’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner.

The new policy limits new interim clearances to a maximum of 270 days, and cuts off any Top Secret or Sensitive-Compartmented-Information (TS/SCI) level interim clearances for individuals whose investigations or adjudications have been pending since June 1, 2017, or before.

It’s way past time for Jared to move on.

The president is 13 months into the job and the justification for interim advisors at this point is outweighed by legitimate nepotism concerns.

It’s not okay with many of us that somehow the boss is trying to make something out of his son-in-law. Let Jared go back to trying to make it on his own.

Drain the Swamp

I would agree with you but peace in the Middle East is more important.

In the mean while did Hillary ever sign her 2962? Was she even debriefed? I doubt it.

This dweeb shouldn't even be allowed to dress himself in the morning -- let alone see classified, sensitive information related to national security.

” the justification for interim advisors at this point “

Where do you see that Jared is an interim advisor?

Well said. If a Democrat was doing this, we’d all be screaming here (and rightly so).

How is this line even relevant?

“Chief of Staff John Kelly last week ordered changes to how the White House manages security clearance investigations, after staffer Rob Porter continued to access top secret material even after claims of domestic abuse by two ex-wives were reported to the FBI.”

Apparently ‘claims of domestic abuse’ is the new Scarlet letter for society !

I agree. Neither Jared or Ivanka have any business doing business in the White House. Disgusting case of nepotism.

Which department handles the processing of security clearances?

IF the Deep State is dragging their feet intentionally, why is that the fault of these staffers who are trying to do their jobs?

White House officials now say that more than 100 staff members -- at least one of them with routine access to classified material -- have failed to obtain government security clearances, mostly because of "procrastination." White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers is among what she said are... - March 14, 1994 (i.e., 3 weeks later into the Clinton Administration)

Peace in the Middle East is an impossibility.

You overlook the important, telling point. The president doesn’t give a damn about what you think no matter how much you whine.

He knows his daughter and son in law and you do not.

It's way past time for Jared to move on

And anyone else who can't get a security clearance. Why give the maniacs this issue? There are plenty of Deplorables, many of whom have been on board since the "walk down the escalator" who would be loyal, qualified, and able to pass a security check.

FWIW, I'm disappointed there hasn't been more appointments for Deplorables who have the skills to fill positions. Might be the best way to get loyalty and stop leaks.

What makes you think it's a case of foot-dragging and not a case of Kushner being to big of a risk to entrust with the security classification?

Actually, Kelly has nothing to do with it.

In his role as Commander-in-Chief, the President has the authority to establish the standards for access to classified national security information. President Trump has the power to decide that even people who are ineligible for a security clearance may be given access to classified materials.
