Did the Progressive 'Broward County Solution' Cost 17 Student Lives?
American Thinker ^ | 2/20/2018 | Jack Cashill

"We're not compromising school safety. We're really saving the lives of kids," boasted Michaelle Valbrun-Pope, executive director of Student Support Initiatives for Broward County Public Schools, in August 2017.

Valbrun-Pope was referring to what an article by Jeffrey Benzing in Public Source calls the "Broward County Solution." As Benzing relates, Broward County used to lead the state of Florida in sending students to the state's juvenile justice system. County leaders responded with a perfectly progressive solution: "lower arrests by not making arrests."

Authorities agreed to treat twelve different misdemeanor offenses as school-related issues, not criminal ones. The results impressed the people who initiated the program. Arrests dropped from more than a thousand in 2011-2012 to less than four hundred just four years later.

One particular motivation behind programs like Broward County's was the pressure from multiple sources to reduce the statistical disparity between black and Hispanic student arrests on one hand and white and Asian student arrests on the other.

By virtue of his name alone, Nikolas de Jesús Cruz, the adopted son of Lynda and Roger Cruz, became a statistical Hispanic. As such, authorities at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland had every reason not to report his troubling and likely criminal behavior to the police.

According to a source who spoke to the Miami Herald, Cruz had been suspended from Stoneman Douglas High for fighting and also for being caught with bullets in his backpack. This was apparently at least one of the reasons why administrators reportedly emailed a warning to teachers against allowing Cruz on the campus with a backpack. He was later expelled for reasons that have not been disclosed, but he was apparently not arrested.

And there it is. Reporting him to the police for bringing bullets to school(!) would have been racist. So they just banned him from wearing a backpack. Because when too many minorities are being arrested the Progressive solution is to just stop arresting them! Equality of outcome is what's most important, after all.

But, no! It's all the NRA's fault! It's my fault for owning guns! It's Trump's fault! Etc....

As long as ‘students’ attend, the money rolls in.

K-12 in many locales is nothing more than daycare. Very expensive daycare.

The school board and various school officials need to be indicted for manslaughter. No more snowflake coddling. Put them in juvie or prison as necessary.

Start by charging the Superintendent of Schools, the chief Administrator of Socia; Services, the County Sheriff and the SAIC FBI with Criminal Negligence.

This whole Ant-Gun Campaign is a shiny object to distract from the real problem - bureaucrats who don’t want to deal with real problems.

If they can’t stop this man with the paper trail he has, then no one is safe.

Instead of going after the paper tiger, the NRA, the parents and students of Broward County should be kicking out the School administration and teachers that colluded to hide the real record of Nikolas Cruz. Going after the NRA is just Kabuki theater and will solve nothing.

In July 2012, the Obama administration formalized the pressure on school districts with an executive order warning school districts to avoid "methods that result in disparate use of disciplinary tools."

A close look at that idiotic policy raises a few obvious questions.

1. Was the Obama administration saying black students were being accused and reported for infractions they did not commit?

2. Or were infractions committed by white students being ignored and never reported?

3 Or, was the reporting accurate and the Obama administration wanted those reporting to lie and not report infractions committed by black students to get rid of the "disparities"?

The explanation for the "disparities" that so concerned Obama has to be one of the three above circumstances. But, of course, no where did Obama ask if the statistics were accurate, and if so, what could be done to improve black student behavior to reduce the "disparities".

Co-pilot: We're too low. The altimeter reads 4,000 ft. Mountains here are 6,500 ft high.

Pilot: No problem. Just put this electrical tape over the altimeter.

Co-pilot: What!?

We need to shout it from all angles that Broward county is run by dims who’ve migrated from NY and NJ primarily. This tragedy lies at the feet of them. Hold them accountable.

The only person who is safe in a gun free zone is the bad guy.

We need to arm and train the teachers and require that they use deadly force in the protection of the children under their care.

Juvenile delinquents RULE the schools. Victims and their families should be outraged at their school’s discipline code and preparing to sue the BC School board and Sheriff’s office for this collaboration. Nikolas Cruz was never busted at school because of the 2013 NAACP collaborative discipline policy:

http://www.ncjfcj.org/sites/default/files/Broward%20Co%20Collaborative%20Agreement%20on%20School%20Discipline%20-%20MOU.pdf

Broward County’s School Discipline ‘Agreement” signed by the Sheriff, State Atty and local judges. Its purpose is to keep minority juvenile delinquents out of prison by NOT enforcing Florida state laws in schools.

These various behaviors will NOT result in suspension or expulsion or notification to the police. Instead they receive warnings, lectures and possible stern scolding!

The infractions include -All student misbehavior and these non-violent infractions:

Disrupting or Interfering with class
Affray - fighting in a public place
Theft if less than $300
Vandalism damages < $1,000
Disorderly conduct
Trespassing, Loitering or Prowling
Criminal Mischief
Gambling
Harrassment or Threats
Alcohol -all related offenses
Possession of Cannabis
Drug Paraphernalia
Obstructing Justice w/out Violence

“Go ahead kids. Smoke pot, booze it up, fight, THREATEN a teacher and tear the bloody place up! The NAACP & Broward County got your back. Since your family has failed to discipline, a sanctuary law-breaking program shields you at your school.”

How many kids have to die before people begin to realize “broken windows” is not a myth.

The whole Travon Martin thing was from the same situation.
School officials found stolen items on him and did nothing
So one night he was casing the wrong neighborhood...

These are the parties that designed and signed onto this asinine SCHOOL DISCIPLINE POLICY.

THE SCHOOL BOARD OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA

CHIEF JUDGE OF THE SEVENTEENTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT

OFFICE OF THE STATE ATTORNEY

LAW OFFICE OF THE PUBLIC DEFENDER

SHERIFF OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA

FORT LAUDERDALE POLICE DEPARTMENT

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE JUSTICE

FORT LAUDERDALE BRANCH OF THE NAACP

JUVENILE JUSTICE ADVISORY BOARD

Parkland victims’ families should file a class action suit against all of them.

I think it was Mills who said: “When you protect fools from their folly, you populate the Earth with fools.”

When outlaws are enabled and protected, why would they ever stop and evaluate their own neurotic behavior?

Broward County used to lead the state in sending students to the juvenile justice system.
The perfect progressive solution? "Lower arrest stats by not making arrests."
Pressure came from "multiple sources" to reduce the "racist" disparity;
countless black and Hispanic arrests and almost non-existent white and Asian student arrests.

Sure, 17 kids died.....but the most important thing is liberals still "feel good" about themselves.
