Olympics Sticks Near 2018 Viewership Low As 19.3M Watch On NBC

Heading into tonight’s primetime coverage with Lindsey Vonn’s XXIII Winter Games debut and men’s figure skating, NBC could sure use a win – at least when it comes to viewership.

(Snip)

Putting up NBC 2018 against the broadcast-only coverage of February 13, 2014’s XXII Winter Games and things start to really sting. Last night’s primetime featuring Mikaela Shiffrin and Nathan Chen in PyeongChang dropped a hard 29% in sets of eyeballs.

In smaller numbers but still significant for NBCUniversal, NBCSN had its best night of the 2018 Games so far with 2.75 million tuning in.

Our home hasn’t watched a single, broadcast minute of this year’s Olympics.

We normally do watch. Just not that interested with snowflakes dissing our POTUS.

Have only seen clips/gifs of a few of the fails, er, runs.

The politics of this country are literally distracting the athletes.

Shut up and win medals.

Media needs to go back to the days of only showing US athletes who win medals.

Speaking for myself I’ll tell you why:

Now let me say this, I LOVE the Olympics! I’ve been a regular watcher since Olga Korbut did “that thing” in 1972 in Munich (I was 11 at the time). I prefer the summer games over the winter but I still enjoy watching.

This year the games are simply dull. I’m not sure why. I’ve tried watching. I just can’t keep any interest. It has NOTHING to do with politics or society or gays or anything like that. I’m just not seeing any very exciting events or atheletes.

I have trouble with sleep patterns in winter weather. I’ve found a two-week solution. Last night, I turned on my antenna TV (so it doesn’t count as viewership). They were showing hour after hour of people going down the same mountain. It put me to sleep and I didn’t wake up until morning.

I’m sure their talking point of “Adam Rippon has OWNED these Olympics” (with NO individual medal) has nothing to do with it.
“Oh, and did we mention he hates VP Pence and will not go to the WH?”

They make it so difficult to watch unless you want to pony up your hard earned money for cable. I thought I could watch it on HULU but you have to buy the $39.99 tv online pkg to view the Olympics. I came close this morning to doing that because I wanted to watch hockey but I stayed strong and just kept track of the scores online.

I won't be watching, but I bet I'll find out what happens to Tiger's ex by watching POTUS' Twitter feed...

Lets see.....

1. The media falling in love with the Norks and giving them positive press
2. Spoiled brat US athlete miffed for losing the chance to carry the flag in the opening ceremony
3. Athletes that are openly critical of the President and Vice President over stupid, shallow reasons. The MSM hailing this as a great thing.

I guess those are leading the factors in the big drops.

Note too long ago, the Olympics was an opportunity for ALL Americans to come together and root for their country. This was most evident 38 years ago when the “Miracle on Ice” happened. We were in the middle of the Iranian hostage crisis and this country needed something to unite us. The US Hockey Team did just that. Whenever I hear people chanting “USA, USA, USA!!!” today, it takes me back to February 1980. Such nationalism. Such pride. Everyone in this country felt great.

It would have been unheard of if any US athlete would have said something critical of this country or its President back then. We were all together as one. The Olympics was a vehicle for everyone to forget about life and politics and cheer for their country. Politics was another issue for an another time.

You don’t see that now, just a bunch of self-absorbed spoiled brat athletes who want to talk about things that don’t unite any country....and a propaganda media that overly exposes this PC cr@p as if anyone really wants to see it or cares.

Here are the stories NBC has hyped non-stop:

1. Racist black speed skater boycotts opening ceremony because he lost a coin toss.

2. Washed up alpine skier Lindsey Vonn trashes President Trump.

3. disgusting homosexual figure skater attacks VP Pence.

These 3 are the face of the US team as far as NBC is concerned. In reality, they are a national disgrace and the primary reason why the US team is performing so poorly.

“I hope non of my tax money goes to this crap.”

“The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) supporting American athletes is one of the only national committees in the world that does not receive any financial assistance from its government. “ dailysignal.com/2014/02/07/federal-funding-us-olympians/

That’s why people should go easy on the Athletes.

Most of them are there on their own (or their parents) dime.

The USOC private funding usually comes to little to late, (like a couple of weeks before the games.)

“That’s why people should go easy on the Athletes.”

They go there not to represent themselves but the nation.

If they can’t do that then the USA needs to remove ALL sponsorship and these disrespectful children can go compete professionally as individuals.

I’m just not seeing any very exciting events or atheletes.

I'm kind of the same way. Except I've been watching the Olympics backwards from what I used to do with the summer Olympics.

With the summer Olympics, I used to change channel during the commercials, to see what kind of "excitement" there might be in the ID or HGTV channels. This year, I've been watching ID or HGTV primarily (not much else to watch on regular TV; which is why I'm going to be 'cutting the cord' soon), and during commercials, I might do a quick flip over to NBC to get a quick glimpse of what's doing in the Olympics. I still have not seen anything interesting enough to keep me watching the winter Olympics for more than a minute or two. And, NBC just makes things a whole lot worse.

“They go there not to represent themselves but the nation.”

They go there to do both. Again, mostly on their own dime.

Only Soviets, Chinese and Norks are mere cogs of the State.

“If they can’t do that then the USA needs to remove ALL sponsorship and these disrespectful children can go compete professionally as individuals.”

Agree that they need to tighten up the codes of conduct, a lot.
