In this incident, the problem was that the students were following a mandated protocol (fire alarm) which exposed them to the shooter, and facilitated his escape.

There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth after Sandy Hook. Aside from Sandy Hook itself, my question to all the parents who claimed that such a massacre really affected their worldview was: what are you going to do about it? Knowing what you now know, are you going to just send your kid back into the same situation you sent him yesterday? Will you consider home schooling? Or is that inconvenient to your lifestyle? Are you going to follow up with any changes to your school’s preparedness? Going to hold your local school administration accountable for anything? Anything? Or just wait for the news cycle to change and hope it doesn’t happen to you?
