LAFAYETTE, Colo. - A Boulder Valley School District teacher now faces child abuse and assault charges for allegedly forcing a child to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance earlier this month, CBS Denver reports. Lafayette police say Karen Smith, a physical education teacher at Angevine Middle School, grabbed a boy by his jacket, lifted him to his feet and took him out of class on February 1. Police were called.
The school district released a letter it sent to parents Tuesday saying, "Today we learned that the Boulder County District Attorney's office has formally charged Angevine Middle School Physical Education Teacher Karen Smith. Ms. Smith has served Boulder Valley School District for 20 years and is currently on paid administrative leave. We are cooperating with the District Attorney's Office and respect their decision on this matter. We are unable to comment further because it remains a personnel matter that the school district is actively investigating."
The school district allows students to stand or sit during the pledge, district spokesperson Randy Barber told the Denver Post.

Good point. Western civilization is built upon a Christian world view. Crushing that foundation can’t portend a good end.

Well - not respecting the flag and the nation is definitely an INaction.
However, if you can gather yourself and calmly go back and re-read my post 27 you will see that I did not say I advocate forcing or demanding students to stand for the Oath of Allegiance.
I simply explained why I thought standing in honor of the flag and the republic was a reasonable and respectful thing to do.
Truthfully, I don't understand why any well balanced youngster and adult wouldn't be eager to stand and pledge allegiance to the flag and the nation.
Every one of those kids should give thanks every hour of every day for their good fortune of winning the lottery of life and being an American and living in America.
They may take their cue from adult complainers - politician, entertainers, sports idols and college professors - who spit on America without stopping to think "If America is so bad why are they still here complaining about it?"
I personally think anyone full of hate and disdain for their own country at that age has psychological issues and is probably well on his way to an unhappy life of seething hate, alienation and dis-satisfaction with just about everything.
That's how some kids end up cracking skulls with bicycle locks, shooting up schools and mowing down crowds with rental trucks.
YEP; you definitely need to go back to DU.
Where every body thinks just like you.
There will be a criminal trial and there will be a civil trial.
Those are simple facts.

Of course I am in California, so I expect the obstacles will be much greater and more difficult to overcome.

Mormons are one of the largest groups in the Boy scouts.
