If your friends don’t dance, well, they’re no friends of mine.

I just think 8th grade is more appropriate. There seems to be too much encouraging of children to grow up quickly. An 11-year-old boy should still be hanging out with other boys, IMO.

In “Brave New World”, everyone belonged to everyone so you weren’t supposed to be exclusive and weren’t supposed to say no when asked.
That was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual.

It’s clear the reason is they don’t want anyone’s feeling hurt.

Because that is what society is all about these days.

Would be terrible if someone kept getting rejected.

I’d think they’d say the same on the playground/gym - no one can be picked last, and no one can refuse anyone to play with them.

When was the last time dance cards were used?

I don’t even recall my mother having them, and she was very proper.

I think it would be great.

I’m sick of the “have to have a date” approach to “socials” wherein one is indeed obliged mostly to “dance with the one that brung ya”. Those dances don’t really exist anymore.

“Well. so much for women being “empowered.””

When I was in sixth grade the girls were more interested in the boys than the reverse. Generally they went steady with older boys.

Just wait until you can’t turn down a same-sex person asking you to dance.

Can the girls ask the guys or do the boys have to do the asking?

Oh, boy! Wait until a Baptist girl is asked to dance.

When we had dancing in gym class, Dad sent me to school with a note, “MayflowerMadam is a Christian and she cannot dance. Please excuse her from class.”

This is to prepare them to acquiesce when they are told they must go on dates with trannys when asked.

When was the last time dance cards were used?

Mmmmm, last May. And upcoming this May. At our home-school group's prom for the juniors and seniors, which my wife has been running.

She uses various devices that add up to the same effect as a dance card. Last year, it was issuing each of the boys a certain number of fantastical-looking coins. To ask a girl to dance, he has to give her one from his stash, and he can only dance with that same girl once in the first half of the prom, and once in the second half.

Suit and tie for the boys, fancy gowns on the girls. Besides straight dancing, lots of crazy games that include a dance element--such as a "flag football" event, where each couple competes against all the others to a rather violent Fox Trot.

A whole lot of laughs, prizes in various categories, and a great sit-down dinner at a long table with candles and real china, just for the young folks.
