The information contained in the memo released by House Republicans on Friday that accused FBI and Justice Department officials of improperly obtaining permission to surveil a former Trump campaign adviser shows a tragic failure of leadership on the part of former FBI Director James Comey.
But importantly, the memo does not in any way reflect on the outstanding work of the more than 35,000 dedicated men and women of the FBI.
It pains me – as a former FBI executive who loves and respects the organization – to say that Comey’s short tenure at the FBI has proven to be the worst thing to happen to the agency since Director L. Patrick Gray was fired during the Watergate scandal.
If the facts stated in the memo are true – despite the highly political nature of congressional committees – then there was either incompetent or deliberate manipulation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Court to get approval of the surveillance.
Even new agent trainees at the FBI Academy know better than to use paid opposition research and newspaper articles to support use of one of the most sensitive and intrusive surveillance techniques in the investigative toolbox. If they do use such information, the FISA judge should have been apprised of the origins of the research.

An honorable FBI..?!

You mean those “honorable FBI agents” who killed Vicky Weaver, burned down the Branch Davidian Compound, killed LaVoy Finnicum, and covered up TWA 800? Those guys?
If you don’t think the stink goes deeper than the seventh floor in DC, you’re not seeing reality.
No its not a failure of leadership. It is moral corruption to tilt the balance of the political scales in the service of evil.
And this is not just a couple of bad apples at the top. Look at the whole Bundy thing.

Former FBI agents (mostly all lawyers), former DOJ people (mostly lawyers) all have one thing in common. Namely, “let’s not hold anybody accountable if they have a law degree”. This guys “sorry” for his FBI! I’m not. To hell with them, many of the 35,000 had to know and did nothing. I’m sorry for the American People and not only that this even happened but also because millions of us are not marching on Washington to burn the DOJ and the FBI to the ground and move their duties elsewhere as some more knowledgeable than me have called for. This was a crime against the American People! Not the FBI or DOJ !!! People need to be punished SEVERELY!!!

The FBI may have been honorable before Hoover, it hasn’t been since then.
I’m curious to know about a very gullible, or complicit FISA Court Judge.
Everybody seems to want to dance around the one figure in this mess that could have asked a few more questions perhaps, or asked some at all.
From everything I've read recently, Comey was hardly a leader, stepping aside to allow the inmates to run the asylum. At this point it looks like about the only job Comey did do, was to sign FISA warrant requests, and to show up to pick up his paycheck.
Remember Enron and how corrupt they were? I’m pretty sure there were plenty of people at the bottom who had no idea what was going on. But ALL of the big players knew. I suspect it’s the same at the FBI.
One thing I’ll bet is a good clue: Look at people’s email and texts. You probably don’t even have to read them, just count them. Anyone who has time to send 10,000 texts messages while they are “working” is part of the elite protected group who knew what was going on. People doing real work don’t have time for that.

My theory is that the reason the first warrant was denied was because it wouldn’t give the judge enough cover. He sent them back to get more supporting “documentation” so that he would be able to sign the warrant and then claim that he made an “honest” decision based on evidence only (and not on his desire to help Hitlery and sabotage Trump).
That this doofus is teaching ethics anywhere is a hoot.

Yes, the only real fault I see in the Memo is that it doesn’t hold the judge to account.
Incompetent? Or complicit?
Any competent jurist would have to recognize that a warrant to spy on a presidential campaign didn’t exactly fall under the normal use of FISA.
So, I vote for complicit. Let’s find out who this judge is and nail him along with the other traitors.
