Magazine Multiplier: Mossberg 590M
Recoil ^ | 26 Jan 2018 | Tamara Keel

The debut of Mossberg’s new-for-2018 magazine-fed 590M shotgun at SHOT has been surprisingly low-key. We practically stumbled across it at Industry Range Day and were intrigued enough to track it down on the show floor so that we could get hands-on with it and examine its features without having to shout to be heard over gunfire. Externally, the gun differs in hardly any dimension from a regular 590. The most noticeable difference is the magazine release housing immediately in front of the trigger guard. Both ambidextrous magazine release buttons, as well as the housing itself, are constructed from steel and exude solidity. There are scalloped cuts along both edges of the magazine opening, which replaces the loading port on the standard gun. These scallops mate with matching ridges on the body of the magazine and prevent it from wobbling around or being inserted incorrectly. The magazine is inserted with the nose first and then rocks and locks into place with a reassuringly audible click.

The magazine I'd love to have is that Nov 2016 issue of Newsweek that prematurely declared Hillary the winner.

(Hey, *you* brought up magazines, I didn't!)

I am guessing the tubular mag does not work but it would not be that hard to make it do so. Put a magazine cut-off like the old Browning auto five. and rig the follower on the detachable one to accept shells from the tube.

Simply run the box mag dry and flip the cut-off back on.

There’s a reason the reveal was so low-key. They absolutely stole the design from Black Aces Tactical. For shame.

Right, plus one in the chamber makes 9 total. 15 would be nice, but sadly I'm in California with stupid restrictions.

It’s possible they just licensed it from them or buy them from BAT outright - that’s what Mossberg does with their other “non-traditional” shotgun furniture and accessories.

Black Aces put up an Instagram post where they outright accuse Mossberg of theft by putting their guns side by side. It’s pretty convincing. I own a Black Aces. Wonderful shotgun. I guess theft is the sincerest form of flattery.
