40 Percent Of Kids Now Born To Single Moms—Up 700 Percent Since 1960
National Economics Editorial ^ | Jan 16, 2017 | Dylan Scott

"A recent report from the Social Capital Project reveals that the American family is disintegrating, fast. Fully 40 percent of mothers are currently unmarried.

This is bad news, because good families depend on good marriages. Marriage is the moral glue that binds them. It’s the stabilizing agent. There’s a reason that children from married couples do better in school, and are less likely to end up in jail as compared to children of unmarried mothers, known as “fragile families."

Does this correlate with the increased number of people who don’t know whether they are a boy or girl?

There was one conservative scholar back in the 1960s that said it very simply:

“If you are a young woman and you want to greatly increase your odds of being poor for the rest of your life all you need to do is be a single mom.”

And what percent of that 40% access one or more of the means tested, government poverty programs?

I have extended family on my in-laws' side, that seem to be quite prolific in siring out-of-wedlock children. One of them recently, even though they had a 4 year-old son, found another woman with whom he worked, and fathered yet a second out-of-wedlock child with that woman. No telling what the outcome will be, as none of them have any notable assets, or means to care for multiple children.

That side of the family turns their heads and celebrates the births, but I can't help but feel sorry for the children, as their lives are tainted right from the start.

Even WORSE than just "appalling"!

Horrific, disgusting, and obscene!

“If you are a young woman and you want to greatly increase your odds of being poor for the rest of your life all you need to do is be a single mom.”

The problem with that is, the various welfare benefits available to single moms give many of them a better standard of living than they could have with most lower paying jobs. And, of course, they need government paid child care should they actually take a job.

When shame left the pubic marketplace of ideas this was inevitable.

The concept of “the baby did nothing wrong” was bad for society in that it established a milieu where it went from “a mistake” to condonation and subsidization.

Been behind more than a few at more than a few Wal*Marts filling out “the check” or whatever. IOW, not a normal checkbook. From big towns and small towns, too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kate_Millett
Katherine Murray Millett (September 14, 1934 – September 6, 2017) was an American feminist writer, educator, artist, and activist. She attended Oxford University and was the first American woman to be awarded a degree with first-class honors after studying at St Hilda's College, Oxford. She has been described as “a seminal influence on second-wave feminism”, and is best known for her book Sexual Politics (1970),[1] which was based on her doctoral dissertation at Columbia University. Journalist Liza Featherstone attributes previously unimaginable “legal abortion, greater professional equality between the sexes, and a sexual freedom” being made possible partially due to Millett’s efforts.[2]

...Millett questioned the origins of patriarchy, argued that sex-based oppression was both political and cultural,[26] and posited that undoing the traditional family was the key to true sexual revolution.

Marxist Feminism’s Ruined Lives

...Sometime later, I was a young divorcee with a small child. At the urging of my sister, I relocated to NYC after spending years married to an American executive stationed in Southeast Asia. The marriage over, I was making a new life for my daughter and me. Katie said, “Come to New York. We’re making revolution! Some of us are starting the National Organization of Women and you can be part of it.”

I hadn’t seen her for years. Although she had tormented me when we were youngsters, those memories were faint after my Asian traumas and the break-up of my marriage. I foolishly mistook her for sanctuary in a storm. With so much time and distance between us, I had forgotten her emotional instability.

And so began my period as an unwitting witness to history. I stayed with Kate and her lovable Japanese husband, Fumio, in a dilapidated loft on The Bowery as she finished her first book, a PhD thesis for Columbia University, “Sexual Politics.”

It was 1969. Kate invited me to join her for a gathering at the home of her friend, Lila Karp. They called the assemblage a “consciousness-raising-group,” a typical communist exercise, something practiced in Maoist China. We gathered at a large table as the chairperson opened the meeting with a back-and-forth recitation, like a Litany, a type of prayer done in Catholic Church. But now it was Marxism, the Church of the Left, mimicking religious practice:

“Why are we here today?” she asked.
“To make revolution,” they answered.
“What kind of revolution?” she replied.
“The Cultural Revolution,” they chanted.
And how do we make Cultural Revolution?” she demanded.
By destroying the American family!” they answered.
How do we destroy the family?” she came back.
By destroying the American Patriarch,” they cried exuberantly.
And how do we destroy the American Patriarch?” she replied.
By taking away his power!
How do we do that?
By destroying monogamy!” they shouted.
How can we destroy monogamy?”
Their answer left me dumbstruck, breathless, disbelieving my ears. Was I on planet earth? Who were these people?

By promoting promiscuity, eroticism, prostitution and homosexuality!” they resounded.

They proceeded with a long discussion on how to advance these goals by establishing The National Organization of Women. It was clear they desired nothing less than the utter deconstruction of Western society. The upshot was that the only way to do this was “to invade every American institution. Every one must be permeated with ‘The Revolution’”: The media, the educational system, universities, high schools, K-12, school boards, etc.; then, the judiciary, the legislatures, the executive branches and even the library system.

It fell on my ears as a ludicrous scheme, as if they were a band of highly imaginative children planning a Brinks robbery; a lark trumped up on a snowy night amongst a group of spoiled brats over booze and hashish...

I wonder how many of the Mom’s eventually marry the fathers or stay in defacto common law marriages. That would greatly mitigate the damage.

To be truly a single mom is a very rough road.

In this country being born out of wedlock almost guarantees a train wreck of a life for the kid.

And that includes *all* races.

When did our public assistance programs change, so that unmarried mothers can get welfare?

I know that there was a time in this country, when a girl pregnant without a husband couldn’t just go and get on welfare because of that. The qualifications changed at some point, but I’m not sure when or who decided that there should be no “moral judgements” made.

This is a classic case of, if you subsidize or are “liberal” towards situations and behaviors, you get more of them.

Different situation, but San Francisco is overrun with homeless and human waste, due to their desire to be liberal towards the homeless. So now they have more of them.

Ditto California and other places who have declared they are “sancutaries” for illegal aliens. Being liberal towards illegals means that, these places inevitably have more illegals now.

[ 40 Percent Of Kids Now Born To Single Moms—Up 700 Percent Since 1960]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madalyn_Murray_O%27Hair

"Murray filed a lawsuit against the Baltimore City Public School System (Murray v. Curlett) in 1960 in which she asserted that it was unconstitutional for her son William to be required to participate in Bible readings at Baltimore public schools. In this litigation, she stated that her son's refusal to partake in the Bible readings had resulted in bullying being directed against him by classmates and that administrators condoned it.

After consolidation with Abington School District v. Schempp, the lawsuit reached the Supreme Court of the United States in 1963. The Court voted 8–1 in Schempp's favor, which effectively banned mandatory Bible verse recitation at public schools in the United States. Prayer in schools other than Bible-readings had already been ended in 1962 by the Court's ruling in Engel v. Vitale."

Probably just a coincidence. Along with LBJ's actions a few years later.
