Even more amazing when you consider how little energy is extracted by solar and wind devices in comparison. Maybe the French have it right, France getting almost half of their electric power from nuclear plants.

When our COAL FIRED POWER PLANT went on line, there was an open house for tours. Many people came through and several of them voiced the fear that it might BLOW UP and wipe out part of several states!
Only if AZ and NM powerplants will stop selling them power from the 4 corners, Page, Sholow plants.
AZ and NM will make a bundle, but the fruits and nuts will complain and sue in court, just like the NY pensioners about global warming, and AZ and NM will stop selling to them... then they will go dark.
You want a pollution-free fuel? Get LNG. America has plenty of it and it will be cheaper than getting it from Indonesia.

The regulators stated that they would not allow the reactor to continue, until the Federal Government had a solution to handling nuclear waste, which they approved of.
Just so happens that make believe Ecology Worshiping Billionaire Bill Gates owns a nuclear power company (TerraPower), that is pimping a reactor design which consumes the old waste as fuel. Must just be coincidence.
One thing is for sure, California has been reducing generation capability, instead of increasing it, so a predictable “crisis” is coming, which will justify a massive taxpayer shakedown, and likely some emergency uncompetitive contract awards to cronies.

Water converted to steam expands 1,100% by volume. It is more energy efficient in regards to power than any other source. Water is more explosive than gasoline when superheated. Nuclear and coal are the two fuel sources the most efficient in converting water to steam. Steam drives the turbines.
Southern CA still gets a lot of nuclear generated energy from the Palo Verde plant west of Phoenix.
It’s a win-win for everybody. The Californians can feel good about no more nukes, and the rest of us will no longer worry about what will happen when the big one hits one of those power plants.
Democrats make sweetheart long term deals with cronies, that guarantee purchasing power from their solar panels, so that they make money no matter what. Costs more (although that is getting better quickly), and is less reliable - but you can still buy kickbacks using other people’s money, so it is an irresistible deal.
This one power plant they just voted to close, produces 9% of California’s electricity today. They closed another a few years back (Onofre), and have been systematically undercutting their hydro power as well.
This is the same corrupt governmental commission that approved the nuke plant in the first place by secretly ordering its then- knowledgeable and supposedly “independent professional engineering staff” experts off the case. This included a very well qualified person who had the evidence to prove the site was amidst earthquake faults (it was reportedly not designed for same and the utility was claiming it selected the site to be away from fault lines). Also, the nuclear materials disposal issue was conveniently brushed aside — the commission didn’t even discuss it other then to say that any dangerous material wastes would be “trucked offsite on AEC approved vehicles.” To where? Nobody knew and they didn’t say. End of issue. The utility corporation wanted the plant and that’s all that mattered. ———- rubber stamp approval. It now must be noted, to the utility’s credit, that it appears to have operated the plant quite successfully - even for some years beyond its design life. Also, this was achieved despite the fact that the plant was constructed ass-backwards from its approved design, supposedly ( and quite possibly) by simple human error ( anyway, there was no other apparent reason for it). And they ran the plant successfully despite various odd protest groups trying to shut it down or at least occupy the entry, etc. and one more thing to the utiluty’s Credit is the very intelligent design of this nuke plant in that it’s tied into a remot water storage dam — so that during low electricity usage times the nuker power is used to pump water into the dam. It’s like a storage battery and the water can thrn be released to (conventionally) generate electricity power during high demand periods. Very smart system design as the nuker’s “excess capacity” ( during low electricity demand hours) isn’t wasted. So, the utility engineers deserve a lot of credit. But as for governmental oversight, covet about it. It appears that money talks. One clarification : it’s the same commission but of course the original decision- takers there have all retired by now. ( The new people have their own more recent scandals - including criminal investigations in progress - the San Diego union tribune probably covers these modern scandals as well as any of the major media — the media mostly hides, covers these stories up. This note is my opinion and to the b st of my recollection. I think it’s pretty accurate but will look for any updates or corrections here by those more knowledgeable. Thanks ps: one of the nicer utility regulators was a cattle rancher of note. He sat there having to listen to a newly- appointed younger lady commissioner prattle on almost incoherently, but passionately, about how no new power generating capacity was needed for California because all they needed was a rule that the dairies should sweep up all the excrement which then could be burnt for power. After he couldn’t take it anymore, he finally spoke up saying “ I’m a cattle man and so I’m the expert on this panel about bullshit, not you! “. After everyone finally stopped laughing, he explained why that idea was impractical and would consume a great deal of energy and cost to go around collecting and delivering and processing all the millions of tons of cow chips. It was very funny. He closed my offering the new lady a free tour of all the cow chips on his large ranch. I brlieve she quietly declined.
One of those nuclear power plants will bite them in the ass when one of their many muzzies gets control of it.
Well, for once I don’t blame the Californicators. The Fed.gov has had 70 years to works out the long-term storage solution, most likely in a salt formation 2 miles underground in Nevada, but they have FAILED MISERABLY. Radioactive WASTE is still stored at EVERY individual nuclear reactor site, tempting terrorists to spread it via a TNT explosion.
