Congressional negotiators are closer than is publicly acknowledged to finalizing an immigration deal that would codify legal protections for undocumented minors while giving President Donald Trump some tangible victories of his own.
The deal, which is largely being forged in the Senate, still faces major hurdles; chief among them a healthy skepticism by conservatives—including some officials in the Trump White House—and a difficult path to passage in the House. But one lawmaker told The Daily Beast that there was a “growing sense of optimism” that negotiators will end up with an agreement that could, at a minimum, pass the Senate and put pressure on others to then act.
Congressional sources were universally cagey in talking about the specifics. But in numerous conversations with lobbyists and aides, the basic contours were laid out as follows.
The final deal will reinstate the legal protections for so-called DREAMers that President Trump rescinded when he ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that began under his predecessor. The deal will also undo another Trump decision: the termination of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for certain groups of immigrants, including Salvadorans, 200,000 of whom could face an end to their legal status in 2019.
In exchange for backpedaling two of his initiatives, Trump would score some real policy victories. The deal will revamp but not end the visa lottery program, numerous sources said. There are also ongoing talks of reworking the formula around so-called chain migration, including the possibility of altering the ability of those DREAMers to sponsor their relatives for legal status...
The final deal will also include money for some sort of physical structure along the southern border.

Trump’s future, and that of the Repubs hangs on this and the general issue of ILLEGAL immigration.
Trump needs to send DACA to the supreme court because no law was ever legislated to create it. It was just an Obama Excrement Action. Kiss it in public to appear warm and fuzzy while he lets the USSC kill it. Congress will never write a law that would pass as an alternative which is what the USSC will say.

AND, there must be a strong English proficiency test.
Every single one must be proficient to the point of reading a several page article in English and then writing a summary of that article. After passing that, a verbal test, given over the telephone, so there are no visual clues. Each one must be able to communicate concepts, directions, and spell out common words.
Again, the idea is no ties to the old country, but from what I see recently, about half have very limited English proficiency and 25% may well be illiterate in English. If they know Spanish, they should go to where Spanish is spoken. If they are illiterate in all languages, they are nothing but a drain on the country and should go back home again.
Give me your best reason why 9 democrats in the senate will vote for only what conservatives want and break a cloture/filibuster.

Sadly - this is just the way it is and will forever be - short of dismantling the no-backbone GOP. Democrats have no morals and don’t mind breaking the backs of the ones who pay the bills for the sake of perpetuating slavery to their Socialist agenda. The GOP is the party of “stupid” - where they believe that capitulation = “compromise”.
Tough task. Easier to get rid of the cloture/filibuster requirement.

I think the current system without a wall has allowed about 30 million illegals into the country. I think the democrats and establishment repubs are fine with letting it continue. Do you agree?

If the above is achieved, I can accept DACA excluding criminals.
