The “young immigrants” in question re the so-called “Dreamers,” that group of illegal immigrants purportedly brought to this country by their parents, one quarter of whom are functionally illiterate and half of whom have not bothered to learn English. The Democrats correctly see them as future voters, and hope that chain migration triples or quadruples the 800,000 into millions of new Democrats if they are allowed to gain permanent residence and citizenship.

The problem is that the general public is far from convinced that legalizing a group of border violators likely to become tax consumers, not tax payers, is the most pressing problem facing the nation, worthy of shutting down the government if Democrats don’t get their way. President Trump already called their bluff when they threatened the continuing resolution over DACA last month and the Dems caved and averted a Christmas season government shutdown. Their problem is that a substantial part of their base is angry over that concession to public opinion:

Coulter and Limbaugh need that uneasy feeling to keep their audiences tuned in. For some reason a lot of conservatives will give their time and support to people they perceive to be modern day Paul Reveres. As if listening to Rush or reading Coulter would dissuade Trump from selling us out if he intended to (he doesn’t).
Ingraham idk about. My perception is that she wouldn’t feign uneasiness to try and maintain an audience. She probably believes there is a genuine danger afoot. Otoh, even if I were personal friends with her (I’m not) I doubt she’d listen to me. Some people are going to doubt Trump until he proves himself. They’re just too conditioned to being betrayed to do otherwise.
The correct action for Congress is to do nothing on DACA.
The program is illegal and should have been ended in March of 2017.
There is one winning deal on DACA:
Limited to those already signed up, no expansion.
End birthright citizenship, end visa lottery, end chain migration, reduce legal immigration to 250,000 annually.
Border barrier completed before anyone gets a Green Card.
Massively increased and expedited removals starting with the parents who put those “kids” in their predicament.

Exactly right. Trump has spent a lifetime making deals. He knows he has to honor his promises. It’s the only way he’ll be able to make bigger and better deals in the future. And we can take it to the bank that Trump wants to make another deal [2020].

However, DACA, no matter your position on this and I’m in agreement but, have some quibbles over the whole thing, needs to happen and then we wash our hands of it and move forward.

Trump will not let this golden opportunity pass him by. By giving the Democrats 6 months, he’s given them enough rope to hang themselves. In the end Trump’s base will be happy bc DACA will not happen. But Trump will have won two ways. He can tell Hispanic voters that he tried, but the Democrats blew it. Plus, the Dem base will be angry enough to tar and feather their politicians. Win-win.
The supermajority rule in the Senate is an extra-constitutional, self-imposed restriction that severely limits that body’s ability to move legislation. The Senate should, except for constitutionally mandated vote margins, return to a simple majority vote and conduct filibusters the old-fashioned way.
Did you notice that Trump reiterated yesterday that Mexico will ultimately pay for the wall? Trump neither forgets his promises nor breaks them. He still has three years, if God grants him life and health, to get the $ from Mexico.
