ATLANTA -- Atlanta's mayor is promising a "safe, smooth and secure" college football championship game Monday, despite the traffic problems expected to be caused by President Donald Trump's motorcade, but none of the many agencies involved are taking any chances.

The headline writer opted to eschew "Donald Trump's" current position. Someone in denial?

It’s a really bad idea.

I am also interested in comments pertaining to this paragraph by people here with knowledge:

Trump tweeted last year that Lewis’ district was “in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested)” — a claim hard to match with the facts. Atlanta’s economy is growing rapidly, and while crime and poverty remain higher-than-average, the district is home to several Fortune 500 headquarters, prestigious universities and the nation’s busiest airport.

Funny, there were no “traffic problems” when Barry jetted around the country.

Or when Clinton stopped an airport so he could get his hair cut.

Don’t go , Donald. That city is a filthy pit of cop-killers, whitey-haters, and Do Not Stand gangsters. Everyone should boycott Atlanta!

Just one more way to rub it in the Left’s faces...

Go Trump!

O-hole screwed up traffic in Birmingham when he visted so badly it took me 2 extra hours to get home. I saw his limo and motorcade pass just as I was turning out of work and thought “Oh, fudge”.

I recall Obama attended some basketball games. Not sure if NBA or college. But he went to sports events.

If I was one of his advisors, I would advise president Trump to avoid Atlanta, Georgia like the plague.

Please don’t do this, Mr President. You’re taking a needless risk.

Yep, Obama is a big time White Sox fan, even though he couldn’t name a singe player. Ah, the good old days at “Cominskey Park.”

Haha. I’ve recently moved to Atlanta and trust me traffic here is unbelievable 24/7. All surrounding areas too are nonstop traffic so I can imagine what a nightmare it will be having Trump visit. Atlanta airport is the busiest in the world and that alone is enough to make traffic here insane.

I’m very happy he’s coming. I was lucky to get to be at the Mercedes Benz stadium for the Georgia Bulldogs against Auburn game and while I’m not a football fan that stadium is impressive! I hope Trump will thoroughly enjoy the championship game! GO TRUMP!

I'm a native of the city of Atlanta, born inside city limits over 60 years ago. Lived just within city limits until I married, then on the east side of the city (DeKalb County but within city limits - most of the city is Fulton) until we moved to an inner suburb in another county in 1982. Worked downtown all my life.

Trump is right. The major corporations that are still downtown have underground parking and serious security. Many have moved north to the suburbs. State government has 2 police departments of its own (Capitol Police and state troopers) because Atlanta police are completely overworked and also in many cases incompetent.

Both Georgia State and Georgia Tech (the "prestigious universities" mentioned) regularly have students robbed, carjacked, shot & killed (there's a news story at least once every couple of weeks, and the Atlanta paper doesn't bother unless somebody gets killed). You take your life in your hands if you move around campus at night at Tech. Georgia State is a commuter school and is deserted at night.

The Braves moved to Cobb County at least in part because Turner Field was in a still worse part of town - south of the government complex - and people were routinely mugged in the stadium parking lot (the local thugs knew they were unarmed because the stadium banned guns). City promised a redevelopment program to improve the area but it never happened.

The "rapidly growing economy" is the "Metropolitan Statistical Area" - the 28 counties surrounding Atlanta - thus disguising the fact that the city proper is losing population and business. The airport is a self-contained unit, surrounded by acres of deserted land, high fences, and vehicle patrols. So yeah, Trump's description was pretty accurate. And Lewis has done nothing about it in the decades he's been in office.

I just know it will tweak the Left. Gotta love that.

He may be able to use his Marine One helicopter for part of the trip.

That might reduce the impact significantly.

I agree about any chance to tweak the Left. I loathe those people so much. I can’t say what I’d like to say because I’m a lady. I just can’t wait for some major payback in 2018 and I truly believe Trump has a lot up his sleeve. People can call him dumb all they wish to do, but he is a brilliant mastermind. We are so fortunate to have him.

Ask and ye shall receive. :-D

Traffic here is ALWAYS horrible. Those of us who are long time residents guard our private detour routes jealously.

There will be a huge influx from Athens (home of the Dawgs) as well as from Alababylon (a friend's nickname for our neighbor to the west). So traffic will be a mess even without Trump. He'll get blamed for it all though.
