Trump Will Attend College Football Championship Game, Anti-Trump Kendrick Lamar, Halftime Act

Citing two sources withing the administration, USA Today has confirmed that President Trump will attend Monday night’s national championship game between Alabama and Georgia. According to USA Today, the two sources didn’t speak publicly because the president’s schedule has not been made official.

Politically Georgia, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s politics blog, was first to report the news Wednesday.

The game will be held at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

According to USA Today:

The president and First Lady Melania Trump are expected to be guests of Nick and Jamie Ayers. Nick Ayers is chief of staff for Vice President Mike Pence and a native of Georgia.

Trump – who last year said any NFL player who kneeled during the national anthem should be fired, sparking a lengthy controversy around the league – also will welcome the World Series champion Houston Astros to the White House on a future date.

Make the Conference Championship Game winners automatically qualify, and that’s a 10-team playoff right there. Add in two at-large teams, and you have a pool of 7 teams, including the 5 Conference Champions and 2 at-large teams. Seed the teams accordingly, and have the 6 and 7 seeds play each other.

The top two seeds get a First Round bye.

Week of December 14: Play-In Game (6 vs 7)

Week of December 21: First Round (3 vs 6/7, 4 vs 5)

New Years’: National Semifinals (3/6/7 vs 2, 4/5 vs 1)

January 8: National Championship

And I would make it, so that the Top Non-Power Five Conference team, automatically qualifies, if they are ranked in the Top 16, so that a team like UCF can get in.

I don’t like byes. With my system, the top eight playoff with seven games - one plays eight, two plays seven, etc. Call it the Elite Eight Teams and Super Seven Bowls - Fiesta, Peach, Citrus, Orange, Cotton, Sugar, Rose.

Too bad the NC won’t be the best team.

Interesting concept. That would mean a total of fifteen playoff games played, or playoff bowls.

One issue would be timing, if the bowls were to be around the holidays, the season would have to start in late September - early October.

I like byes because it puts pressure on a team to win every week, even though their winning their conference is a foregone conclusion.

What is the “best team”? The best team at a given time, or the team that has the best overall body of work over the course of a season?

Too bad the “best” team’s coach left to go to a better program...

The best team at a given time, which is UCF, after they beat Auburn.
