If I understand the social security payments they use the average life expectancy in determining how much your ss payment will be based on your age when you start receiving ss payments. For the average persons, the total amount you will receive from social security will be the same regardless of the age you start receiving benefits.

“This belief appears to be based largely upon fallacious thinking.”

I’m still alive 30 years later to tell my tale because of this legend. I saw the writing on the wall when eight in a work group of about a dozen had a heart attack. Who knows how many thousands died due to stress in the dark years of the reign of Obama.

If you don’t take it at 62 you are “STUCK ON STUPID”

If you wait till 66 it will take you 11 years to make up what you would have gotten at 62.

I’m no expert, but I think you’re right.

But that “average person” must pass away at 78. In that case, it doesn’t matter whether he took social security at 62 or at 70. The amount he received would be the same (if I understand it correctly).

Now, when it comes to individuals, things change. You might make it to, say, 90. If that’s the case, it would have paid you very handsomely to wait. But even if I was pretty sure I’ll make it to 90, 62 is still my number.

The younger you are, the healthier you are. I want to enjoy that money. Of course, that just my take.

Remember to account for inflation when trying to figure it out.

The COLA is next to worthless as they do not figure in the stuff that will be your biggest expenses as a retired person.

Many people get caught up in the deferred gratification trap.

But the rules of life that makes sense at 25, do not make sense at 60+

At 60+ time is running out and you should enjoy life sooner rather than later.

That said, a lot of people can’t afford to retire until 65 due to health insurance. But if you can afford it and don’t like your job, then go for it.

I added to commas to your post. Does it change your intended meaning? If not, the commas add clarity and make it easier to grasp.

Very pithy and too the point. Well done. Perhaps you will be warmed up this winterery day by the flames.

“Just because I’ve been defrauded of my means, to provide illegitimate benefits to others, doesn’t give me the right to see others defrauded in turn for my benefit.”

Good to know that The Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI program, aka Social Security) is helping people afford travel. /s

Eagles Field wrote: I like my job and it’s as secure as can be if there is such a thing (I’m #1 in the nation 10 out of the last 11 quarters).

I asked Eagles Field to clarify what he meant by that.

E.g., what category of workers was "#1" for which parameter (he had mentioned two: "likeability" and "security")?

You proffer:

Senior ie experienced/older. Someone who can close a deal and not just for short term gains but keeping clients. Long Term

But I greatly doubt that the U.S. govt. or any organization collects statistics for categories like "experienced" or "can close a deal and not just for short-term gains." (Such terms or characterizations do not lend themselves to exact definition for the purpose of statistical compilation.)

I am asking Eagles Field to please state what category of U.S. workers were "#1" in which category for 9 of the last quarters.

Suggesting something like "the really great guys who make lots of money for the company and always keep the customers happy" cannot be taken seriously.

Regards,

Anyone thinking SSI is a livable wage is going to be terribly disappointed.

I’m talking about the $1 deduction for every $2 you earn over a certain amount - meaning that if you’d like to use your SS to help supplement your older years, you need to stop working, basically.

And I think that is based on total Household income, so if your spouse is still making good money, you have to pay back 50 cents on the dollar. Right?

What does it matter what they say? The poster’s point remains valid not matter the answer.

There is no system. It is welfare. What is the system you are thinking of? Please do not tell me about the one you want to believe in but the one written down as law and adjucated by the SC.

A lesson learned for those who haven’t applied yet. Always go to your local SS branch when applying, never do it online. You just might have some redistributionist operating out of Baltimore make your day forever.
