From glancing at the headlines (or even at entertainment news), you could be forgiven for thinking a full-blown Watergate is upon us.
Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg find parallels to Nixon era, ran a Dec. 15 headline in The Washington Post. Spielberg has said he made the movie The Post because the dawn of the Trump era was exactly the right time for an unabashed prequel to All the Presidents Men that ends with the Watergate burglary. Hanks added that if President Trump invited him to screen the movie at the White House, hed decline and be more likely to lead an anti-Trump revolution. We have to decide when we take to the ramparts, Hanks said, promoting his new 1971-set film about The WaPos and The New York Times decision to print classified deliberations about the Vietnam War.
Back then, The Nixon administration tried to stop the story from being published, Hanks said. They took on the First Amendment by saying: You cant tell that story, and if you do, were going to threaten you. That is going on, of course, right now.
Actually, the Nixon administration didnt just threaten the media but via its Justice Department secured an injunction to forbid The Times from publishing the Pentagon Papers. This is not going on, of course, right now. What is going on is that, like the flabby 59-year-old who cant stop telling you how he scored the winning touchdown in high school, liberals cant stop reliving the Watergate era. To them, Watergate stands for the twin milestones, never approached since, of taking out a Republican president and making heroes out of liberal reporters.

There was no “Russia collusion.”
The investigation has one purpose; to manufacture process crimes and to eventually force Trump to fire Mueller, at which point the Left will shriek “Saturday Night Massacre” and drive Trump from office.
That was their plan, anyway.
But it’s not going to work out the way they planned.
Don't hold your breath, Tommy.
This is so sorry. Tom Hanks just joined my lengthy, and growing list of entertainers not worth my $ or time.
Because the Left succeeded in taking out a president (twice elected).
They called for Nixon’s impeachment in his first term, long before Watergate.
They called for Reagan’s impeachment in his first term (first year even), long before Iran-Contra.
They have called for Trump’s removal over mental issues (long before Russia Russia Russia).
The New Democrats are Commuist revolutionaries and they don’t accept electoral losses.
..manufacture process crimes and to eventually force Trump to fire Mueller,
Ok lets accept that was the plan. So since firing Mueller is key to the plan, can someone explain to me why Trump hasnt fired the corrupt punk Rosenstein and recess appoint someone to put a leash on Mueller?
>>Spielberg has said he made the movie The Post because the dawn of the Trump era was exactly the right time for an unabashed prequel to All the Presidents Men that ends with the Watergate burglary.
How very queer it all is.
The Post is about the publication of the stolen Pentagon Papers...
A more accurate analogy would be to Wikileaks’ publication of the stolen DNC emails exposing corruption and collusion between the DNC and the media and the Hillary Rotten Clinton campaign to steel the 2016 Presidential Primary.
This may well backfire.
Sleazy Washington politicians? The American people have the right to know the truth? We really need a crusading press to let us shine a light on government malfeasance?
But we’ve looked at Trump long and hard. Nothing there. The guy is clean as a whistle. But maybe the people will expect some other folks to be looked at too —
Hillary? Huma? Podesta? Obama? Lerner? Comey?
Golly wouldn’t that be entertaining? Might even sell some newspapers.
Watergate was a third-rate burglary compared to what regularly went on during the Obama administration.
Watergate was a Leftist Coup, pilled off when they ( Leftist Media) had a monopoly with the thee networks and the three big newspapers.
Hanks didn't "add" that. A reporter asked him if he'd go if he was invited. Hanks thought about it and said no, which was at least honest.
That bit about "taking to the ramparts" was bizarre and all Hanks, but a lot of what ends up in the news is stuff that reporters troll for hoping to get an answer that will create a controversy.
They want to rehash Watergate and Vietnam but never insinuate that Bill Clinton is the #Metoo patriarch or that Iran and the PLO have been leading the Islamic world from the Jimmy Carter days.
Wikipedia summarizes the Pentagon Papers as divulging how LBJ lied about the Vietnam War.
Nixon's stonewalling of teh P Papers may have more to do with protecting executive authority and the constitution than covering hisself, but my memory fails. And remember, Nixon is the one that ended the Vietnam War. I'll be interested to see "The Post". I'm confident they make a republican out to be the bad guy.
Another bad comparison is the miscreants of Watergate with those of this Trump dossier. G Gordon Liddy & co. were loosely associated with Nixon and the RNC...some working for free-lance security firms, iirc.....which is a far cry from the FBI/DoJ leadership.
Wheres the movie about Billy and Janet burning 50 Christian men, women and children alive in Waco, Texas?
How sad that, in America, millions of college-propagandized adults could fall under the cultish ideology of Progressivism, to the point where they would form groups to "scream" at the moon over a failed 70-year-old, and selfish, woman's arrogant aims to set herself up to "rule" America.
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH
[ Hanks added that if President Trump invited him to screen the movie at the White House, hed decline ]
Haha. Tom Hanks thinks that President Trump cares or has time for his nonsense.
That’s rich.
The American Left had a seething hatred for Nixon well before Watergate. It goes back to when he went after the traitor Alger Hiss.
Watergate was their “scalp” and they’ve been exploiting it ever since.
