Here’s the (likely) contents of Beyond Sausage:

To recreate the sausage texture, the R&D team used a mixture of peas, fava beans, and rice. The Beyond Sausage also contains beet, paprika, and coconut oil.

Another head-scratcher for Beyond Meat’s scientists was how to replicate a sausage’s casing, which is usually made of animal intestine. It naturally folds back on itself—a quality that gives sausages their curved shape, Brown explains. It’s also semi-permeable, allowing some, but not all, of the fat to be released when cooking. “It’s an amazing material,” he adds.

As a solution, the Beyond Meat team decided to use alginate, a substance contained within algae. Brown says it’s decent but not perfect yet. To recreate the sausage’s curve, the company is going to sell the product in molded trays.

If I wanna eat meat I wanna eat meat. If’n I wanna eat plants, gimme plants. Why do they have to be the same thing?

That said though, I’ve had some veggie sausage that was pretty good.

Meanwhile, meat prices are astronomical. I wish President Trump would have somebody do something about that.

There are ways to get pretty good meat CHEAP. Last week I got a 13.5 lb spiral cut glazed ham at Target for just under $9. It was already on sale and then there was a 30% discount via the Target app. Then another 5% off from using my Target Redcard.

There are other gimmicks for getting meat cheap.

They did the rounds in the restaurant (wallburgers) and meat eaters said it was really good- They were very surprised by the texture, taste and smell- and i don’t think paul was just triyng to push the product- but who knows-

I have not tried it- I would like to try it though—

I recall buying a package of ‘ham’ veggie stuff in the mid 1970s. It had the taste of ham and color, but the texture was gritty and had veggie strings.

Imitation stuff just doesn’t live up to expectations.

“It was already on sale and then there was a 30% discount via the Target app.”

My daughter is an Olympic caliber shopper, and does things like that.

Me, I just see that ribeye has increased from an already exorbitant $9 per pound to over $14 per pound. Hello, frozen pizza (or, at the end of the month, pinto beans).

And for years we have been warned against eating over processed food products.

You need to simply check out either the Krazy Coupon Lady or Publix Savings 101 (if you live in a Publix area). It was the Krazy Coupon Lady site that let me know about the Target ham deal. Just keep checking them regularly.

Years ago they developed steaks based on mushrooms grown from saw dust. problem was, to get the meat taste, the sawdust had to be soaked in blood.

which reminds me of an old Si-Fi short story about a tin horn dictator in the Brazilian jungle with no meat, tiring of vegetables and wanted some MEAT! So his on site doctor-scientist developed “Greenbeefos” a vegetable that tasted like meat. With an evil ending.

It’s all about stocking up at the right time. For instance you can get prime ribs and strip roast for pretty cheap right now. They aren’t prime grade but choice but you can buy a years worth of steaks for a few hundred if you have the mind to do so and the ability to store them.

I have not eaten meat or fowl since 1991, but I will eat fish. My last heart scan showed wide open arteries and I have now outlived my dad and grandfather by 12 years. It works for me and I don’t miss eating meat at all.

I sometimes have Taco Tuesday at Del Taco. Since they have black beans (healthy for your kidneys), I have them substitute that for their likely very low quality meat.

I stocked up on cubed ham steaks. Cost $0. I have enough to last me until about end of January.
