Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not chosen a church wedding just as a "tick-box exercise", says the archbishop of Canterbury.
The Most Rev Justin Welby told BBC Radio 4's Today programme it was up to the couple whether he presided over the ceremony - admitting he had dropped the ring at a recent wedding.
But he was sure that both Prince Harry and Miss Markle had a "profound seriousness" both about their faith and about their relationship.

I think the Crown is probably fully capable of vetting someone for a ‘job’ like this - and they seem to have welcomed the young lady. I think we who have no stake in it should just leave it alone - except for offering our congratulations/best wishes, and taking joy in ‘young love’ ;-)
Offering congratulations in what many view as a big mistake by Harry would be hypocritical.
Actually, I think they’ve learned a lesson.
I’ll be naive, and wish this charming young couple the absolute best!
Several years ago I saw Ms. Markle in a Hallmark movie. I loved the movie and looked her name up on google. Did not find out much then other that she was biracial.
However, her religious faith is a mystery. I read that she married her first husband in a Jewish ceremony. The marriage lasted about 2.5 years. It has been a while since her divorce.
After she and Prince Harry became engaged, I heard on a TV show [i.e. heresay], that the choice was a bit problematic as Meghan was divorced, biracial, and was a Catholic, and that Catholics were not allowed to marry into the Royal family. The Queen is the head of the Church of England, you know!
About 6 or 7 years ago Peter Phillips, Princess Margaret’s son, married a Canadian girl named Autumn Kelly. Ms Kelly was asked to convert to the C of E in order to marry the Queen’s nephew in an Anglican church.
Perhaps the rules have been relaxed a bit now.
Diana had two older sisters. At her funeral these sisters and their children were in the forefront. Several of Harry’s maternal cousins were in attendance and they resembled Harry a lot and had the same red hair.
^^^^ This.
You are correct Yldstrk. We don't chose who we love.
A person with TWO copies of the red-haired allele will have red hair.
Why do you care?
Oh! Thanks for sharing (about her work on Hallmark) - saw the trailers. Lovely! She oozes princess-ness and down to earth grace even in the clips. :)
Markle went to Catholic school, but her dad is Episcopalian. (Which lo and behold is basically C of E. Just the American version.) - And she identifies as Protestant, but was never baptized. She will be confirmed and baptized before wedding.
Why do you care if I care?
Motives interest me.
Its interesting.
