Yet another Chicago schools chief resigns amid scandal

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s track record for picking leaders of his city’s school system, the nation’s third largest, just took a new hit.

In 2015, the woman whom he selected, Barbara Byrd-Bennett, resigned amid a major bribery scandal that sent her to prison. Emanuel replaced her with his longtime friend, Forrest Claypool, who just became the second consecutive Chicago schools chief to announce he is leaving — and he’s doing it in the middle of scandal.

Claypool said he will vacate the position as chief executive officer of the school district, which he has held for 2 1/2 years, on Dec. 31. That announcement was made after the city’s inspector general in a report released last week accused Claypool of “repeatedly” lying in a “full-blown cover-up” during an ethics investigation involving the school district’s general counsel, Ronald Marmer.

It’s probably very rare that a career criminal knows or associates with honest people. Therefore when a career criminal gets to pick somebody to do a job, it is unlikely that he will pick someone who is honest. Also, the way politics works is you-scratch-mine-I-scratch-yours. The scratch usually has to be collected dishonestly. Therefore, you don’t put an honest man in charge of a pile of scratch.

I wonder how much Barbara Byrd-Bennett bribed Mayor Rahm Emanuel to get that job?

“Just big city Democrats being Democrats...........”

Nothing ever changes in that cesspool, except those who decide that enough is enough and relocate to Wisconsin. Actually, some of them are pretty good people who move here.

The only shocking thing about this story is that WaPo is reporting it. Rahm must have done something to get on their bad side.
