NFL's Problem Is Poor Product, Not Disrespect
Mises ^ | 12-11-2017 | Boug French

President Trump has lambasted the NFL more than 20 times for players’ “Total Disrespect of Our Great Country.” Ratings are down for NFL games and Trump figures it’s because some players aren’t standing, hand over heart, and mouthing the words to the national anthem.

Trump may have made some political hay out of all this, but one only has to follow the money to learn the real reason pro football ratings are down — competition from college football. The fact is, “Their product isn’t very good these days,” Nick Bogdanovich told the Las Vegas Sun. He is the chief oddsmaker for William Hill, which operates 107 sportsbooks in Nevada.

The league that used to claim any team could win on “any given Sunday” has turned into a predictable “If you have a quarterback, you have a chance. If you don’t, you don’t,” as Ben Volin wrote of the Boston Globe at the finish of last year’s regular season. As evidence, he pointed to “the four quarterbacks remaining in the playoffs — Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers, and Matt Ryan.”

Jimmy Vaccaro has been running sports books for four decades. He says, it used to be, “Nearly $4 on the NFL for every buck on a college game.” That is no longer the case. Now it is more like 60–40 with the college betting handle gaining.

I guess if that is how you feel, you wouldn’t have been watching anyway.

My guess is you are probably more of a NHL fan. At least by the way you generalize based on skin color. There are a couple of thousand players in the NFL. They are not ALL thugs—in fact I would guess the Thug:Normal ratio is about what it is in the real world.

Are you still using methamphetamine while Feeeping?
Nothing I posted referred to skin color, and I am the father of a multiracial child.

I don’t know when the rules for blocking (or was it just the enforcement?) got loosened up (in the seventies?) but I think it has had a big impact. But the league wants high scores ...

Probably about the same time that basketball refs quit calling traveling fouls ... and probably for the same reason.

We haven’t talked much about corruption and fixed games in the NFL, but it may well be there beneath the surface.

Sports betting is big business, and some of the big boys like to make their own rules...

After they started being disrespectful I stopped watching and I won't watch again unless they change their policy.

Watched Cowboys vs Giants yesterday. Bryant drops two easy to catch passes.

It happens, but still, overall those guys are really, really good (at playing football).

Amazing how the league has self destructed in such a short time. If I was Jerry Jones, i’d tell the league to screw themselves, find some investors, and start up a rival league.

Nice attempt to cover it your clear bias.

Have a good day. I have to go get a fix of the good blue stuff.

You seem to be bringing your personal Marxistvocabulary to a cconservative site.

The term thug dates back to the society of murders in thirteenth through nineteenth century india, who largely killed by strangulation.

http://www.unexplainedstuff.com/Secret-Societies/The-Thuggee.html.

During the twentieth century the term came to refer to criminals who inflict violence or threaten violence through brute muscle rather than weapons. In the ccorporate versus union struggles of the early twentieth century before unions became tools of communism both the brutes in the union and the hired muscle brought in by the industrial monopolisticwere rreferred to as thugs.

In the heyday of the Italian mafia, big men who assaulted welching gamblers were referred to as thugs.

Not a dimes worth of racial diversity in any of those groups.

So I tell you what, snowflake.

In every thread I encounter you on from here on out, we are going to link back to this thread, examine your attempt to redefine words...and then make fraudulent accusations of racism based entirely on your newly minted definitions...and after that the people on this site can evaluate whether a little Colin Kaepernick like yourself has anything conservative to add.

Uh, I don’t think so. Unless thug means something to do with money.

I’s say the NFL has about the same thug to non thug ratio as a state maximum security prison facility.

Of course you’d say that because you’ve never been around these guys.

Are there thugs? Sure. I am sure there are rednecks working in your area.

But, 95% of these guys are decent men. But, the closest you ever got to them was probably your TV.
