BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An Iraqi military parade celebrating final victory over Islamic State is underway in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, an Iraqi military spokesman told Reuters on Sunday.
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared final victory over Islamic State on Saturday after Iraqi forces drove its last remnants from the country, three years after the militant group captured about a third of Iraq’s territory.
Iraqi forces recaptured the last areas still under Islamic State control along the border with Syria and secured the western desert, Abadi said, thus marking the end of the war against the militants.

Obama had most of his two terms to see this through. Why does it happen after only one year of Trump? Maybe because ISIS was a product of Obama’s Arab Spring.
I’ll be honest. It was my take that he viewed them to be doing his god’s work. Add to them the Islamic Brotherhood and other disruptive agents and organizations in the region, and it’s pretty clear his operatives were doing what he wanted them to, not that he controled ISIS to my knowledge.
I just think these were all fellow travelers, headed to the same destination.
We can add McCain, Graham, Rubio, and Hillary Clinton to this meme > IMO.
Unless other side unconditionally surrenders, always a bad idea to hold a victory parade.
Final Victory? More like cancer remission. Even one cell escapes and the tumor of the Islamic State may start growing again. And the big carcinogenic center is just south of Iraq.
I understand Obama’s support for Islamic jihad groups, they are fellow muslims conquering the world for Allah.

i misread it! I thought it was Saddam’s victory over the Iranians back in the 1980s.

So, how long before the citizens of Iraq destabilize their country again?
Iraq has been at war with someone for most of four decades and no one there under the age of 37 has seen an official victory celebration. al-Abadi was not real popular when he came to power and this gives him great political capital.
The Iraqui’s say the fight will now be to identify and destroy individual cells.
The Associated Press and all major U.S. media have a presence in Baghdad but none of them were allowed to cover the parade.
This makes it a little harder for CNN, WAPO, etc. to spin this to an Obama victory. Hope someone there will post some pics of Iraqi’s with MAGA or Trump hats in the crowd.
I thought it was Saddam’s victory over the Iranians back in the 1980s. ............................ Hmmmmm? I wondered if the Iranians held a 2nd place parade or a participant one? It could have been a Victory parade there also, where they both won?
Hey that was a good statement.
I guess maybe he did it to boost the morale of the country.
But that morale will sink doubly if a large attack that kills many happens.
