EU begins court action against Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic over migrant quotas

EU officials announced they have begun court action against Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic over their opposition to the bloc’s mandatory relocation scheme.

The decision is likely to provoke a furious response from the leaders of the three states, which have all argued that the programme presents a security threat to their citizens.

It risks once more plunging Brussels into a bitter and acrimonious battle with three of its newest member states, at a time when the bloc is trying to uphold its remarkable unity of Brexit.

In September Hungary and Slovakia lost an appeal to the ECJ against the legality of the scheme after arguing that it should have been taken by a unanimous decision of the member state.

After that case eurocrats wrote to all four states not honouring quotas, with Slovakia subsequently dropping their opposition, ordering them to immediately start taking in migrants.

In a statement the Commission said: “The replies received were again found not satisfactory and three countries have given no indication that they will contribute to the implementation of the relocation decision.

“This is why, the Commission has decided to move to the next stage of the infringement procedure and refer the three Member States to the Court of Justice of the EU.”

social justice means one world, one people, one color, no nationalism per Rio in 1970-something as I recall.

Europeans are in for a lot of trouble they’ve only had a taste of thus far.... These elites idea they can over-ride a nations sovereignty is their ultimate plan and purposes.....what we are seeing daily is the push for just that.

Fortunately there is a push back but I think what we’ll eventually see is they will nevertheless move forward with ‘the willing’ nations just the same.....

I like option two. All three of these countries have a proud history and culture not worth sacrificing on the altar of globalism. Especially Poland, whose armies saved Vienna and points west from Muslim conquest when they were brink of conquest in 1683.

It’s worth noting that those who have had the experience of living behind the Iron Curtain under the boot of the tyrant for almost 50 years seem to have more interest in preserving their freedom than those who lived relatively free those years.

Very good point. Most in the west take freedom for granted, its been there all their lives. Those in east Europe know how precious freedom is because they didn't always have it.

I wouldn’t argue with that.

I’ve seen it said the E.U. may not survive more than a few more years. Have also seen it said as you have said it here, they may move ahead despite the resistance.

We’ll see. I rather the former than the latter.

Nations should have their own destiny in their hands.

Trump is the proof of that.

Yes, that does seem to be the guiding theory here.

Actually Poland is one of the biggest “payers” in EU. The money payed is being calculated according to GDP, population size etc.
Additionally Poland has a very strong economy, being the only EU country which economy did not suffer from the global breakdown, keeping constant growth.
My point is that they can’t simply suffocate polish economy, as they would feel the fallout in theirs as well. And Germany can’t afford it right now. Especially after Portugal and Greece went basically bankrupt.
Also they now have a lot of expenses thanks to the “immigrants”. Welfare mostly.

And deep down Germans want Poland to be the “bug out” place for the Volksdeutsche, once the Muslims make Germany intolerable for them.

Poland is over 1000 years old, “always” is quite relative here. If you are interested, you should read few things about Poland’s history between 13th and 17th century. Some of it is “Game of Thrones” stuff ;)

They will have to apply for visa. Seeing how happy Poles are with inviting immigrants Germans might be a bit disapponinted.
