It was theater...but with a point. No doubt Jim Jordan knew that Wray couldn't or wouldn't answer his questions in open hearing. Didn't matter. Just by asking the questions Jordan got it all on the record. Jordan already knew the answer and now so do we.

Where does government get these types of people? It’s like they’re all cut out of the exact same mold.
I really liked his style! But he and all the rest of them know that Director Wray, just like AG Sessions, are never going to answer some of those questions in an open public settings. Nor should they. That’s what private hearings are for.
Imagine your local city council calling the Chief of Police up for a report and excoriating him because he didn’t say “Well, we think ole Red Dog Smith is making meth in his garage again and we’re fixin’ to bust him if we catch him doing it again”. All investigations are kept secret for good reasons, most importantly so that the investigation can gather sufficient evidence to make an airtight case in court.
The way most FReepers talk, they’d prefer Sessions and Wray blab about everything they’re doing so all the Swamp Rats from Hillary on down get a free pass. Thankfully these professionals know what they’re doing and how to properly inform Congress.

Jordan’s point that the FBI CAN release their FISA application to the Committee was supported by Goodlatte.
Remains to be seen how the Committee will proceed and how the FBI will respond.
