The gun was stolen from Woychowski’s car, but the person who actually stole the gun has not been named.
In October, KQED reported that Woychowski was promoted five months after Steinle was shot. Attorneys stated Woychowski’s gun was stolen on a day when he had driven “over 600 miles” up the coast of California. He told investigators he drove that great distance “before stopping near the Embarcadero in San Francisco for dinner at almost 10 p.m.”
He was in a personal car and, upon returning to it, he noticed it had been burglarized. “The backpack containing Woychowski’s duty weapon and ammunition [were] missing.”
The gun was stolen June 27 and Steinle was killed with it four days later.

From the Border at Tijuana to San Fran along PCH is 570 odd miles. So he drove the entire PCH starting from the border below San Diego, crossing all of LA.... on a Saturday, in late June, and got to the Embarcadero in time for dinner. Sure, i totally believe that./s
At some point he did, he was in jail and SF finds out about him and sent a car up to pick him up, then released him. Charges where a decade plus old pot charge which SF doesn’t prosecute anymore.
The SF sheriff at the time sent for him. They send for all illegals they can in SF.
It was probably a fast easy trip up the PCH. Nobody goes there on a saturday in late June. It’s a total ghost town.
In fact it’s just like in the movies and TV commercials, where you’re in a convertible...and almost always the only car on the road.
I wonder why he took his own car? Surely BLM budget has more than enough of them for him to use?

Not to worry its still in effect. He will have to do his state time before the feds take their turn. Its an actual federal arrest warrant and not just an immigration detainer so they have to turn him over.
It’s about 600 miles from LA to Frisco if you take highway 1.
