Steinle defendant won’t serve prison time
Mercury News ^ | 12-01-2017 | Tracey Kaplan and Angela Ruggiero

In a twist likely to outrage immigration hard-liners, the undocumented man acquitted of murder and manslaughter in the death of Kate Steinle won’t spend a day in state prison, even though the offense he was convicted of — being a felon in possession of a gun — makes him eligible.

(snip)

Adachi said federal immigration authorities have filed a warrant known as a “civil detainer” because he is in the country illegally. Under the detainer, the sheriff’s office must hold Garcia Zarate for ICE despite the city’s sanctuary policy. Typically in such cases, ICE agents come to the jail and take the inmate to a federal detention center pending federal deportation proceedings.

Unfortunately for Ms Steinle, she turned out to be just an egg in the making of the San Francisco omelette.

Let this be a warning to those who might want to visit SF.

“Hopefully he will be released and some of her relatives will pay him a visit”.

I’d contribute to putting a price on his head. “Wanted-Dead or Alive. Dead $100,000.00 Alive $1.00”.

Yours is the first rational post on this thread. Yes, to everything you’ve written. These salivating anti-California morons here don’t have the innate intellect to take a bent quarter out of a Coke machine. They are simply mindlessly looking for someone to blame for EVERYTHING that’s wrong with America today, so CA is an inviting target. Many other states have a lot of elements that are far worse than CA’s, but CA is big, and it’s numbers dwarf the others, hence all the mindless vituperation. Do I like what’s going on here politically, decidedly not, but the idea of going to Texas and learning to kick cow $hit around for a living isn’t on my “to do list!” Besides, I’d only be going to a state that’s on the cusp of being California II, even though the idiots who live there can’t even see what is happening to their state right before their very eyes! They dane to call us Mexifornia, but they are about to become Mexas!

“What happened to mandatory minimum prison time for usage of a gun in the commitment of a crime?”

Time served! He’s been in jail for about two years.

Likely to outrage anti murder hard-liners as well.

I hear ya. I live in CA too. I love the state, hate the prevailing politics. And yes, we are far from alone with regard to liberal/illegal insanity. San Francisco sure didn’t do itself any favors here, though, especially the Public Defenders politicizing this verdict right out of the gate. Insult to injury, salt in the wound.

Yes, my understanding is that Texas is the second-most invaded state, after California. It’s on its way to turning blue, which will be disastrous for any Republican ever being elected President again.

Years ago I saw a lot of tough talk from Texans on threads about illegals in California. “Serves those fruits and nuts in California right!” “That won’t happen here in Texas! We have guns HERE!” As if Americans would shoot illegal aliens on the streets.

Well, when Texas got invaded, they reacted the same way as Californians. They moved to other suburbs or other states to escape. It doesn’t matter how conservative or tough-talking a state is, or even how many guns. Once the illegals start flooding in to an area, there’s nothing locals can do about it except move. And someday there will be no place left to flee.

If he were your average white man he’d be facing 10 to 15 years, minimum.

#23: "Whatever shriveled shred of respect I ever had for the people of California, especially for the freaks who live in San Francisco, has evaporated."

If a catastrophic earthquake were to hit San Francisco, I wouldn't shed a tear. If it were wiped off the map by an act of God, I'd say "about time …"

“Years ago I saw a lot of tough talk from Texans on threads about illegals in California. “Serves those fruits and nuts in California right!” “That won’”

Yes, and I'm tired of their mindless, superciliousness. If you look at Texas and it's 300 odd "counties," some of which are no bigger than my three-car garage, you will notice a band of them, at least two deep, stretching from Brownsville to El Paso along the Rio Grande. Solid Mexican counties. Then you look at Texas' major cities, and they are all RAT, Black or Mexican RAT-run. Just like what's happened here in CA. So all the cow pattie kickers in Texas fly-over country, can get all wee, wee'd up saying that their guns will protect them, when the Illegals are simply using the "gun" between their legs to take over. Rather than looking to the Second Amendment, they had better get down to business having children, because that's a whole lot more likely to help to solve their problem than what's in their holster.

Zero tolerance for guns only applies to a six year who points a finger and says “bang”! /s

Anarchy is obviously what the progs want, and if this lawlessness continues, it is exactly what they will get.

Imo, Trump won’t fire Sessions because Grassley said he would not confirm a replacement. The media circus would just go on and on, and Trump would have no AG at all, just the swamp holdovers who are already in the DOJ.

I believe Trump will be able to engineer a situation wherein Sessions resigns or Grassley agrees to confirm a replacement. It will just take a little time.
