Tillerson’s exit can only begin to fix US foreign policy
NY Post ^ | November 30, 2017 | Ralph Peters

If the rumor proves true that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is about to lose his job, he’ll doubtless regret leaving far less than accepting the post in the first place. He tried, but he was the wrong man for the wrong job in the wrong administration.

Despite the public embarrassment of his dismissal, Tillerson likely will be relieved to hand off his thankless Cabinet post to his bruited replacement, CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

Tillerson’s former tenure atop Exxon did not prepare him for this role. Even a multinational’s CEO has only to deliver one bottom line. By contrast, an American secretary of state answers to competing interests on hundreds of “bottom lines.” Nor did Tillerson bother to learn State’s culture — so different from that of the corporate world. And while that culture needs serious rehab, it’s hard to fix a problem you don’t understand.

Credit Tillerson with trying, but his lack of government experience wasn’t an asset (contrary to pop myths). Nor did it help that President Trump often shot from the hip in unexpected directions, undercutting Tillerson’s painstaking efforts. Or that Tillerson’s nominal subordinate, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, outshone him on the global stage, in the media and in the White House knife-fighting.

Tillerson grew in the job and finally took a firm stand against Russian intrigues — but that did not endear him to his boss.

And to be fair: The fundamental problem facing the White House will still be there after Tillerson packs up and leaves. The challenge Foggy Bottom faces is less “who” (the person in the secretary’s chair) than “what” (our lack of a coherent foreign policy). Our enemies script five-act plays; we do improvisational skits.

Outside of the Pentagon, the administration seems to have little grip on today’s immense strategic realignments.

“If the rumor proves true...”

From what I understand, the colonel is a talented writer of fiction. Novels.

Someone needs to get Ralphy his Red Rider BB gun so he can shoot his eye out instead.

He's been doing a damn good job of shooting himself in the foot over and over again in the public forum.

Ralphy is a Trump derangement syndrome, never trumping moron trying to pass himself off as an expert.

The badly-needed swamp draining in Saudi Arabia strikes me as a Tillerson move. If things continue going well there, we may possibly have two generations or more with a weakened radical islam.

His Civil War novels are excellent. His political commentary, not so much.

History will show this to be one of the dumber statements by Trump critics. President Trump is the reason for the strategic realignments.

Peters went off the deep end with MH370,insisting repeatedly that the plane was kn a hangar in Pakistan. I never have paid any attention to him since.

On JohnBatchelorShow .com this past nite, Sara Carter, now of Washington Examiner, discussed this.

IIRC she said he wasn’t going now, but likely beginning of next year.

JB had her on last week too and seemed delighted talking with her. This time joining them was Mary ?Kissel of?WSJ.

The biggest problem facing the State Department are the entrenched hate America one-worlder liberals and socialists. Practically everyone in State has become insubordinate and recalcitrant, ignoring directives from our President and S.O.S.

In a better world they would all be jailed and executed for treason. No more treasonous scurvy bunch exists at any level of the US Government.

Somewhere I read that Tillerson has to stay a year to avoid paying major capital gains tax on the investments he was forced to divest from on taking the job.

Wrong guy.

Former Col. Peters is the little guy with glasses who speaks in a soprano voice. I watched him totally lose it a few weeks ago when someone on Fox News (Carlson?) showed his position on on something to be completely wrong.

The guy you’re thinking about is also a former military officer and doesn’t wear glasses, but I can’t recall his name. He’s the one that claimed MH370 was hidden away in Pakistan.
