The administration would do best to simply not talk about promises like this. If it happens one day, fine. The deadline passed in 1999. Like Clinton, Bush, and Obama President Trump determined the move would endanger national security. Though I question that assessment, nothing I can see has changed in the last few months.

It cant be used as a bargaining chip because there is no real desire for peace

I really think it’s up to Net.
To: RummyChick
True, though the only basis for delaying the move is a threat to US national security. Not “endangering” some peace process. Presumably the President feels Israel not reaching an agreement with the Palestinians endangers US national security.

From what I understand it is a logistical nightmare. The site will have to excavated to bedrock, G-d forbid you find any antiquities in that process, now you have an historical dig, not a embassy construction site, and that is just for starters.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see it tomorrow, but IMHO is no different than restoring an old car or home that is too far gone, sometimes you are better off walking away from "that mess"....

The single important event is the reception of President Trump in Saudi Arabia. The world was told in no uncertain terms that the Arab leadership in concert with the USA is going to bring about change.
That visit followed by the rise to power of a new Saudi King is a sea change in world history. Those events in effect eliminated the Palestinians as a significant force to be reckoned with.

The capitol is Jerusalem. So move it to Jerusalem. Makes sense

We’ve owned the site for years, was a British barracks during the mandate. If it’s not suitable, we could look for another site in Jerusalem. Or just state there’s no suitable site, so the Embassy will stay in Tel Aviv. Interestingly we have a Consulate in Jerusalem, independent of the Embassy, whose role is to deal with those living in areas under palestinian control.

A dollar I’d risk wasting. But after 20 years thwarting the will of Congress, it’s time to either move it or say you’re not.

I think they have been “actively considering” it since the Reagan years.
To: SJackson
Donald Trump made a campaign promise to move the Embassy to Jerusalem.
Now it is an unfulfilled campaign promise.
This isn’t something like the campaign promise to repeal Obamacare that is being held up by democrats and RINOs in congress.
This is a campaign promise that President Trump himself has the power to fulfill.
Let’s hope he does it.

Donald Trump made a campaign promise to move the Embassy to Jerusalem...Now it is an unfulfilled campaign promise. Yes, it was a clear promise. Which is why the administration should keep quiet unless and until they're going to do it.

Yes, it was a clear promise. Which is why the administration should keep quiet unless and until they're going to do it. The promise won't go away.
In the 2020 presidential campaign democrats will attack President Trump over every unfulfilled promise.
Which is why they work so hard to roadblock his every move.
