Since we have zero details on what transpired, like who the women are, how long were they in the room, how did they hook up, how much if any money was exchanged, I’d rather be safe than sorry...

I guess uou have no problem with these soldiers embarrassing the adminstration or the service they represent...

Honeypots are one of the most common types of foreign spy operations.

They don’t have a curfew because they’re stuck on chastity.

There are still daily changing codes.

But they are loaded a month at a time. OR they were when I was deep, deep into classified comms for the MEECN network.

The last time I saw any of it, it was a paper tape with a 30 day key.

And of course there was the hardware.

Obviously you’ve never heard of funny humor and sarcasm.

Sarcasm, maybe. Funny humor, hardly. But I must admit you provoked an adverse reaction from a number of people.

And it’s doubtful you’ve been to those places

You don't know me, and you have no idea what you are talking about.

I well remember that, too. However, that was in the 1990’s.

As they say, you’ve come a long way Baby!

Some of that older gear isn’t being used. Of course, neither is the Internet per say, but their own global networks using TCP/IP technologies and encryption done by computers, not gear.

But, but, but a Yankee White clearance ensures we get people with SPOTLESS records. That just means they were never caught. It says nothing about their moral character.

That just reveals the depth and breadth of the DC SWAMP...

Looks like Trump will definitely need more than 4 years...

Not while on foreign assignment, doofus. While they are on duty. What they do on their own time at home is another issue entirely.

For better or for worse, when on presidential duty they represent not only their country, but their president; 24/7.

Guess what finger I’m holding up?

Probably your small brain.

Is 22 years military service enough?

Sheesh.

I go all the way back to Kw-26s and KW-7s. Even the Verdin system.

The KG-83/84/85 were just coming online for “high speed bulk encryption”. That was the fancy stuff at the time.

The moron clearly is an unstable individual. He should be banned as well for his cyber bullying.

I retired in 1998. I then spent 20 years, next March, teaching USAF Computer technicians. The career fields (MOS/Ratings) has changed so much. We used to have separate maintenance crews versus operations; that merged. Crypto became crypto-computer now cyber systems or cyber something (sounds like a Doctor Who episode). We have all kinds of classified networks that use TCP/IP but NOT connected to the Unclassified world.

I was in the Pentagon late 1980s, running the SIOP data center. Had lots of Navy Data Processing ratings and Marines, Army, Air Force working there. Good times, good people, but the Pentagon sure sucked!

Left during Desert Storm and never looked back. Spent 7 years in Europe shutting things down and moving equipment, gear and hard disks for No Such Agency back to Fort Meade for destruction.

Things have changes so much. The Cold War military is as different from today’s as WWII was from the Reagan era.

All encryption at the end points?

None on the long haul trunks?

Honestly, I don’t know from direct experience, as I retired in 1998.

But I do remember plans to convert all or most of the circuit-switched end-to-end connections over to packet-switched.

Very few commercial organizations use circuit-switching; it’s almost all packet-switched. That makes sense since, as long as you have enough nodes, packet-switching is much more reliable.
