“If she was driving a Beemer she absolutely would know “

Not really. BMWs are damned fast. You can’t tell because they are so quiet how fast you are going. 105mph sounds and feels the same as 55mph.

What kind of bike is it? Hubby had a BMW that was dangerous. The kid that bought it jokingly called it a “death machine “. I hope he’s ok...

"...last chance to see an ailing mom..."

Absolutely concur with your post.

You are correct that none of us know the other details.
If my parents were seriously ill, reaching them would easily be worth the risk of a speeding ticket to me.

I will not criticize her without knowing all the additional facts.
Judge Pirro is not contesting the ticket...so unsure why other FReepers are so upset at her personally.

Judge Pirro is a successful woman and was likely in a big German sedan or similar.
There is a vast safety difference between driving a clapped-out 1998 Hyundai Excel as contrasted with a 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-class.

I know they are fast, but most of them drive hard, like a professional race car, they suck down to the road and the driver usually experiences the full driving experience. Maybe not on the recent luxury models.

Love JJ (as a “judge”) but she dresses 20 years younger than her age. It’s a little sad...

Not sure if you noticed, but she still has the body for it. Let her revel in her time.

In the late 70’s I had a 1965 Mustang 289 V8 & got it up in the 80’ish range more than once.

Did between 100 and a little over in a new Cadillac Escalade on a road trip a few decades ago.

By far the scariest, (and seemingly fastest although it wasn’t) was driving my Fiat 850 on the freeway doing around 85. You didn’t get into the 850, you put it on and wore it. I doubt if I was sitting a foot off the ground. Great fun when it worked.

Should not have done it. Refreshing to immediately accept the consequences.

Dear Judge Pirro...

It's a shame that you did not think of the Hillary Defense: "I accept full responsibility"; then just walking away.
Not accepting consequences commensurate with a crime.

Hit 115 mph coming across Nevada on Hwy. 50 in my ‘16
Porsche Cayenne last month. Hwy. 50 (at least in central Nevada) reputed to be the loneliest highway in America. A portion of it is the original route of the Pony Express.

I’ve hit the speed governor on an empty Wyoming highway with many miles of visibility. Somewhere around 130 MPH, IIRC. Reflector poles go by faster. That’s about all.

Hard to believe that Judge J is 66.

I have a car that will do over 200. 119 can creep up on you real easy. ;) She’s slow compared to this guy (155 mph) in a McLaren 720 S.

I’d bet it was a big Mercedes. Not many vehicles go that fast and still feel comfy.

A 911 doesn't mind too much. You can shift out of 2nd at 55. It seems to get pretty heavy over 100.

The Honda Civic R supposedly has a top speed of ~170. Price is around $35K. The Accord with the 250 HP motor probably will do 150. There are rumors Honda will juice the Accord for 2019.

About 5 years ago a coworker of mine was going 25 mph above the posted speed limit on his way to work. He was arrested and his car was impounded. By the grace of God, he was not fired by my company because of his felony speeding ticket.

Are you sure that is a felony? Hard to believe you would lose your right to vote and own guns for doing 25 over. I could see a misdemeanor and being permanently on ones record. In any event, if I find myself in Az I will heed your advice.

I had a VW fox (cheap 4 cyl) that I decided to test out one night. I had it up to 100 when I passed a CHP that was writing some guy a ticket. He apparently finished pretty quick because about 2 or 3 minutes later he caught me. He said to me “I clocked you at 90 but I think you were going faster than that when you passed me.” I replied. “Yeah, I probably was.”

He wrote me up for 75 in a 60.

I didn’t ask him how fast he had to go to catch me. I suspect it was probably pretty close to 150.

“I have driven over 110 mph on interstates, in my foolish youth. I am just grateful I lived to tell about it. Things happen very fast at that speed; it’s just ridiculous to plead that she didn’t know how fast she was driving — an admission that by the way should increase, not mitigate, her guilt.”

Here in eastern NC on I-40, the limit is 70 and the road was made for high speeds. All the curves are gentle and the sight lines are great, and there are no hills. Pretty much everyone is doing 80, and lots are doing 85.

I will cut her some slack for being worried about her mom and not paying attention. I have had to drive home in a hurry in response to a very sick parent. I’m sure a judge will also give her the same benefit of the doubt, if she doesn’t have a history of speeding.

I haven’t had a speeding ticket in many years. Being polite and saying yes sir, no sir has helped me get off with warning or a reduced speed on the ticket in the past. Illinois, they have a 4 tier system. Under 20, 20-30, 30-40, and over 40. Under 20 allows for court supervision. The fines are really big for doing over 30 and they cart you off to jail for doing over 40. Bail is $2500 minimum in my community. In the Chicago area traffic flows of 15-20 over the speed limit are common when I drive there. It doesn’t make economic sense to pull those people over and lose the opportunity to pull over the more lucrative over 30 and 40.

Driving 119 on a road in NY is risking the lives of others.

Going to see one’s elderly parent is not an excuse.

We all err and all are sinners.
