An international summary of five year's worth of research on Arctic climate change concludes the top of the world is getting warmer faster than anyone thought.
And if it all sounds interesting but a little far removed from southern concerns, David Barber has news for you.
"There are very clear linkages there and they've been occurring consistently for the last 10, 15 years," said Barber, one of Canada's top ice scientists and a prominent contributor to the report.
"Most people don't understand how bad it is."
Climate change in the Arctic is well underway and can't be stopped. But the report says if nations meet their greenhouse gas reduction targets under the Paris agreement, changes in the Arctic will stabilize to a new normal some time around 2040.
"We should have started 20 years ago," Barber said. "We didn't get our act together and we're still dicking around trying to figure out how to price carbon.
"These things are costing us. And they're costing the stability of our planet."

If the top of the world is getting warmer, then what is really happening is temperatures are equalizing north to south.
This isn’t a bad thing.
They have nothing else to demagogue to this extent, so they can’t let go.

According to these fanatics, you should have some very mature palm trees and Mango groves growing in you back yard today. Obviously, you don't know how to grow them in your tropical climate.
Perhaps I’m just being selfish, but I usually don’t play golf here in SC in February because it is too cold for me and if global warming allows me to play golf here 12 months out of the year and not have to wear long pants then I’m fine with that. And, because of the global warming excesses I chose not to break the first sentence into more than one and say the same thing.

If you travel east of Tallahassee on I-10, you can see the dead remnants of citrus groves from earlier in the 20th Century. Citrus used to be grown even in southern Georgia.
Now, citrus trees can hardly survive north of Orlando without special care. I have tangerines, lemon and orange trees but must keep them close to the house or covered in winter...............
I’d think Canadians in particular would welcome some warmer weather. It’s not as if all this hasn’t happened before. It’s just that short-lived humans reckon time very differently than the Earth does. With every ice melt there is evidence of old forests and other indications that in the geologic past Arctic regions were much warmer than now.
If they were really serious they’d stop wasting time on the US and go after the real polluters.
China, India, Russia.
Ain’t gonna happen because none of them will pay the extortion money.

Based upon what? Grant funding? Networking his way into publishing in higher profile journals? What? “Top scientists” are those who hypothesize, test their hypotheses, don’t over-interpret their data, and contribute new knowledge to their fields. Most of these ‘climate scientists’ are not doing things that would advance our understanding of what determines climate, and why it is dynamic. They make measurements that any of us could make if we had access to global climate stations, and then they extrapolate from this data - seemingly too often tweaking data points in order to get the answer they want.
Most do not hypothesize alternative contributors to atmospheric heat retention other than carbon dioxide. They seem more interested in finding new ways to ‘prove’ their assumptions - not disprove their own hypotheses. That’s not science. That is self-promoting careerism.
