People with kids will encounter amoral situations in this world so use it as a teachable moment in right vs wrong.
I have seen too many posts about protected speech. There is no such thing as protected speech. If so, then yelling fire in a movie theatre is ok. Or yelling terrorist threats on a airplane is acceptable. Or how about using the N word outside a Starbucks.
The reality is that she used profanity to express her political opinion. If she would have not used profanity to express her opinion then yes, her speech is protected.
I would suggest all those who think the first amendment is a carte Blanche to use profanity in a public space revisit their conception of first speech.
The F-word is all over cable TV, popular music and street language to the extent that it has become common usage.
More about the sheriff’s run for Congress:
Well stated.
Perhaps, but I dont believe she has the right to display profanity like that. I would think (hope) that there were at least local ordinances prohibiting this kind of thing. Who wants their kid reading that in traffic?
There was an old Soviet Union joke. I think Reagan told it once:
Q: American: "Is it true that there is freedom of speech in the Soviet Union, just like in the USA?"A: Soviet: "In principle, yes. In the USA, you can stand in front of the White House in Washington, DC, and yell, "Down with Reagan!", and you will not be punished. Equally, you can also stand in Red Square in Moscow and yell, "Down with Reagan!", and you will not be punished."
The news clip shown on TV showed her being interview next to her truck with the filthy language, and her 9 or 10 yr. old daughter standing there, too. Not Mother of the Year material and ugly to the bone.
If the org raising $ is a c3, then it’s deductible.
The sign says more about the owner than it does of Trump and his voters.
If the kids know the meaning do you think they’ve might heard it before?
Wow, engage in fraud, curse at children on the road - make $100,000. Only a in Democrat-land.
I think this sticker crosses the line; the top part is distasteful, but protected. The bottom part is directed generally, and I sincerely doubt would be found to be protected.
The ACLU seems eager to take on the case however if someone brings charges. Since I think they'll lose, bring it.
The person who started the GoFundMe account on behalf of Karen Fonseca might get a big surprise in January when a 1099K arrives from the IRS showing taxable income of $100K or more.
Hahaha. Yet another LIB asshat “woman” gets her due. Hahaha.
There’s no absolute right to free speech. Time and place.
You can’t ride around with the George Carlin “7 Words You Can’t Say on Radio” and think the 1st Amendment protects that...
...unless our society has become so degraded that type of language is acceptable everywhere and I missed it.
Correction-the 1099K comes from the payment processing company that handles the donations, not the IRS. But it goes to the IRS, and that’s where the problems start.
You need to get out more and listen to people talk.
This person is beyond fugly!
Unless the person receiving the money on GoFundMe is doing something in return for this money, it's not taxable to the recipient or giver, unless the amount exceeds the gift tax exemption limit. Gift taxes are paid by the giver of the gift, not the recipient. For 2017, an individual can donate up to the exclusion (not total) limit of $14,000 to any number of recipients (that is, as long as each recipient doesn't receive more than $14,000, it's not taxable to the giver).
They didn’t, people complained about her sign. You don’t have a right to disrupt the peace with profane language. Go someplace and try it, you will most like get to meet a cop.
