The arrival of more than than 130,000 Puerto Ricans in Florida since Hurricane Maria has some officials anticipating a political shakeup in a battleground state dominated by the Republican party.
Both parties are actively courting new arrivals to Florida, which President Donald Trump won last year by 112,000 votes out of 9.6 million cast.
Many Puerto Ricans have expressed outrage over Trump's handling of the storm but have applauded efforts by Republican Gov. Rick Scott to welcome them.
As U.S. citizens, Puerto Ricans can vote in federal elections when they move to the mainland. Newcomers must register as voters by next July 30 to vote in primaries ahead of the 2018 general election of a new governor to replace term-limited Scott and choose Florida's congressional delegation.

Simple. Recruit Puerto Ricans into the American Dream, i.e., work hard, save your money, buy a home, and educate yourself up to the limit of your capabilities.
You cannot do all these things and remain a socialist Democrat. Tom Perez is not a “success story”, no matter HOW it may be spun. He got where he is by cronyism and careful selection of mentors and sucking up to the right party bosses. I know, he is “native born”, of Dominican parents, and not, strictly speaking, Puerto Rican in any way, form, shape or manner, but he has taken up the cause of Puerto Rico as his own.
Puerto Ricans are Americans and can vote if they come to America. I am stunned by the ignorance of so many in America. Kinda scary quite frankly. They don’t teach a thing in schools today and those that were taught years ago forgot or never gave a damn. Sad.
Send them back.
Give them their own country.

I don't care what the "official" law says (which was a corrupt Faustian bargain, BTW). Puerto Ricans have nothing in common with American tradition and values. Should have been its own country decades ago.
But you have to know American Government and most are clueless. How Puerto Ricans vote is irrelevant.

I’m entirely aware that Puerto Ricans are Americans.
I’m on the island about every 2 years. San Juan is a lovely place. Arecibo is a great little day trip.
That said they are not culturally or ethnically or historically American. They were a prize of the wars of the Monroe Doctrine.
The independence movement there still has about 1/3 of the population on their side. Another 1/3 is ambivalent. And of course the final 1/3 is pro-American if not statehood. But their main connection to us is monetary: as an independent island they would starve. As a vassal state of Spain, they would merely be underfed.
Perhaps a CommonWealth status with limited immigration rights. Remember the British already went through this in the last century, and their liberal immigration rights from the colonies has resulted in the streets of London becoming a threat to the English themselves.
Even without this, foreign immigration will make Florida blue in a few years. You would think Florida Republicans would know better than to support Marco Rubio, Jeb and other amnesty lovers for office.
An excellent reason to call for a convention of states.
One amendment should be to require delegates to the Electoral College be required to vote for the candidate that receive the majority of votes in the Congressional District they represent.
The Electoral College was established to reflect the wishes of the people contained in each Congressional District, rather than the majority of votes (winner take all) throughout a state.
This would solve the problem of large urban districts manufacturing votes and causing a state to swing to one party or the other, based upon massive voter irregularities in urban areas, where irregularities regularly occur.
If this had been in place in previous elections, we may not have had to suffer the consequences of illegal acts, and the list of Presidents may have been different.
Yes, a large number of people fail to realized that Puerto Ricans are American citizens. They just occupy a territory, rather than a state.
My problem is that if a large number migrate to South Florida, the makeup of Florida’s state government will be flipped to a Democrat majority in the House and Senate, along with the Governorship.
Also what happen when all the newly arrive Puerto Ricans register to vote, move back to Puerto Rico, but still vote in Florida elections. This can be either by absentee ballots manufactured by Dems, or actual dual voting.
You aren’t kidding! I know a few that have been here for decades and have family there and damn, it was like trying to get there a brick wall trying to undo all the lies. But they ‘knew’ how things were unfolding down there because their families sat on their butts waiting for help! Insane

I can not think of a single reason why Spain would take PR back into their fold. PR would be nothing but problems and expensive at that.
